Fundamentalists...

I saw in the local paper on the front page of one of the sections some of the "best" "in" halloween costumes... One of them was called "the fundamentalist" and was a young lady dressed in a long dress with long hair. :uuhm: I guess that just goes to show how much of the devils day it is, fundamentalists ladies with long hair and in long dresses are what is scary? In all fairness they "might" have made the costume as a reaction to the mormon fundamentalist issue earlier this year, but still... it isn't like the ladies did anything to anyone....

How rude! Well, I guess maybe they realize that THAT type of fundamentalist isn't going to be out on Halloween....at least they know where we draw the line, even if they don't agree with it. :roll

That's crazy. You're probably right... it must have something to do with those "Mormon fundamentalists". If you think about it, the Fundamentalist Mormons do have a pretty weird lifestyle... that might be considered "creepy" to some.

I think it goes far beyond the Mormons, that just maybe gave them an excuse to test out the concept of making fun of other conservative groups. Even if it is soley meant to be aimed at fundamentalist Mormons, it does not make it right, and we shouldn't be quick to chuckle about it--many liberals view IFB's in the same light.

Ahh... you are all ready for oct. 31 then. All you have to do is go up to someones door and say "give me candy or I will give you a tract". :Bleh

In one way it is sort of funny but in another way it isn't funny at all...

The Fundamentalist-Modernist Controversies...Included in Way of Life Encyclopedia of the Bible and Christianity (4th Edition) by David W. Cloud...states the term "Fundamentalism" coming to mean any number of things. It is commonly used in a derogatory and slanderous way by those who do not believe the Scriptures. It is used to describe all sorts of dangerous extremism, such as terrorist Muslims, Pentecostal snake-handlers, the racist Ayrian Nations, and cult leaders as Jim Jones who caused the mass suicide of his followers.

In a historical Christian context, Fundamentalism arose from the doctrinal controversies that embroiled American churches as the turn of the century when theological modernism began to take root in seminaries and Bible colleges and in leadership positions in the denominations. According to historian David O. Beale, "The editor of the Baptist periodical Watchman-Examiner coined the term "Fundamentalist" in 1920 to describe a group of concerned Baptists who had just met at the Delaware Avenue Baptist Church in Buffalo, New York, to discuss the problem of Modernism in the Northern Baptist Convention" (Beale, S.B.C. House on the Sand? , p. 195).

Though Fundamentalism is a North American church phenomenon, it arose because of theological problems that originated in Europe.

They may have to change that costume next year. I've noticed a growing number of Fundamentalist women who no longer wear the long dresses and who wear their hair very short.

I want an Obama mask so I can dress up as a Communist - or would that be just too scary!:eek:eek:eek

You really mean McCain right? I mean because he suspended his campaign and went back to Washington as the great american socialist right? Wow I must be behind on the news :puzzled:

Don't forget, Obama returned to Washington too, although he didn't suspend his campaign. Both Obama and McCain voted for this socialist bailout.

I believe you hit the nail on the head, making fun of people who live by real principles.

I tell you, I don't have much humor, when people make fun of anyone, I think its a total disgrace, but the world is accepting it.

What I can't understand is some Christians accepting it.

Remember, though, a lot of Halloween costumes aren't meant to be scary. People dress up as anything and everything just for fun. I would agree that Mormon fundamentalists are totally creepy, though. :wink

I didn't know that Mormon fundamentalists are totally scary but that is funny. They look like this :pmpkn: or :wvlf"
That is more scarier. Whoa!!
By the way, other religions fundamentalists. They need to know the truth about the salvation of the Lord Jesus Christ by faith, not by work to heaven.
