I like Sci-Fi but don't watch much TV or movies anymore. Like most genre's they can range from very good to terrible to campy. "War of the Worlds" was a favorite when I was younger and I remember watching "Lost in Space" on TV as a child.

One has to watch out for some Sci-Fi because there are some which tend to belittle Christianity, preach evolution, put forth the concept of God as a myth, have immodestly dressed women, etc.

Of course, there are others that, while not being Christian, are not filled with anti-Christian aspects.

I enjoy sci-fi, but it is a genre full of traps for Christians. It's obvious that most sci-fi pushes the religion of Evolution, but I find a lto of it also pushes communism as well. Star Trek TNG did it almost blatantly, and they didn't pull back from it until Voyager.

You're putting yourself out there near my age with Robbie and Will

You are spot on for the belittling, evolution, myth, and women. I too like Sci-Fi but, I constantly pick up on the lines denying God, Christ, Christianity. Other times they attempt to portray Christianity as just bad and the cause of some catastrophy.

I used to enjoy it as a teenager but no longer....I feel it is too fanciful and silly for me now. haha. I wouldn't mind it if they'd make it at least a little realistic but I guess I grew out of the crazy space station zipping around on backpack rockets and evolutionarily advanced brains thing. hee hee.

I do think most sci-fi today is not appropriate for Christians. Some of my relatives are athiests and like sci-fi alot, if that tells you anything.

Let's not forget about Penny and The Robot.  Yes, I loved Sci-Fi as a child, but as a believer---it is awful for "making God out as a myth"... "immodestly dressed women"... and "evolution." "Spot on" is right! :thumb

Do those who write science fiction get their ideas from the Bible?

I posted this verse under another topic. do you suppose some thought they were seeing space people?

17 The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands of angels: the Lord is among them, as in Sinai, in the holy place

Psalms 68:17 (KJV)

Do you suppose all of this science fiction is a stumbling block to some and hinders them from believing upon Jesus as Savior?

There is no doubt some science fiction, whether in book or video form, contains messages that would lead one away from God rather than towards God. As has been previously mentioned, much sci-fi promotes evolution and the idea there is no God.

Yes, Alimantado...most likely he will. :smile IFB pastors are very inquisitive. God gave them a precious calling, and they use it! :-)

I believe you misunderstood what I said.

What I was stating, I don't suppose I got that across, maybe I will this time. I believe many who write science fiction get their ideas for science fiction from the Bible, for they feel its science fiction.

I was in no way saying that science fiction was from God, that is something I would never suggest.

I rightly do not understand why any God fearing person would have anything to do with science fiction. That is I think science fiction is a stumbling block for many people and keeps them from accepting Jesus as Savior.

Some science fiction writers do take the Bible as just a book of myth and create stories based upon something from the Bible.

Star Trek has done that in various episodes as have many other sci-fi books and movies.

Even some "educational" programs like one would see on Discovery or History channel base programs upon the idea that what the Bible is talking about in many areas are extr-terrestrial beings from outer space who early man mistook to be God. I've seen such programs claim the fire by night and cloud by day were actually alien spacecraft; the Red Sea was parted by some sort of downblast from an alien spacecraft; God talking to Moses was actually sound from the alien spacecraft; it was the aliens who dropped food (manna) down for the Israelites to eat; and of course Ezekial was visited by these aliens and their spacecraft and the chariot of fire was an alien spaceship too...

Like I said earlier I am a big fan of Sci-Fi. I agree that some of the stuff is not good at all, and a bunch is just plain weird. I have a hard time finding good new series to read.
I am a big Star Wars fan (except for Episode 1). I have read most of the books and some of those are good and some are terrible. They use a bunch of different authors and therefor the quality and feel vary widely. On the other hand I do not like Star Trek at all. In other series I like Babylon 5 and Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis.
The best book series I have read is David Weber's Honor Harrington series and some of his other books are good too. Right now I am reading Jack Campbell's Lost Fleet series and that is really good. There are some other ones, but those are the best.
