Article Tools Sponsored By By MIGUEL HELFT Published: November 11, 2008 SAN FRANCISCO ? What if Google knew before anyone else that a fast-spreading flu outbreak was putting you at heightened risk of getting sick? And what if it could alert you, your doctor and your local public health officials before the muscle aches and chills kicked in? That, in essence, is the promise of Google Flu Trends, a new Web tool that Google.org, the company?s philanthropic unit, unveiled on Tuesday, just as flu season was getting under way in the United States. ... http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/12/techn ... ref=slogin

China's Path to World Power by Patrick J. Buchanan 11/11/2008 For decades, before a heedless congregation, some of us have preached the old Hamiltonian gospel. Great nations do not have trade partners. They have trade competitors and rivals. Trade surpluses are superior to trade deficits. Tariffs on foreign goods are preferable to taxes on U.S. producers. Manufacturing, not finance, is the muscle of the nation. Economic independence is vital to political independence. Following Hamiltonian precepts, the United States grew from 13 rural and agricultural colonies into the greatest industrial power in all history, producing 42 percent of the world's manufac…

I've had school mates and acquaintances that are homosexual. Very nice until you disagree with them. As far as I'm concerned they tend to be the least "tolerant" people on earth when it comes to others disagreeing with them concerning their lifestyle choices. http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/11/10/gay.marriage.protests.ap/index.html

My wife bought a new DVD player for the kids to have in the van on our trip to Iowa on Friday. She plugged it in to charge the battery, but it won't charge. The player works when plugged into the wall, but not with the battery. Maybe we can exchange it tomorrow, but it was bought on clearance, and we don't know if there were any more left.

(Our God is an awesome God!) Stars in the sea: Ocean census finds new wonders WASHINGTON ? A city of brittle stars off the coast of New Zealand, an Antarctic expressway where octopuses ride along in a flow of extra salty water and a carpet of tiny crustaceans on the Gulf of Mexico sea floor are among the wonders discovered by researchers compiling a massive census of marine life. "We are still making discoveries," but researchers also are busy assembling data already collected into the big picture of life in the oceans, senior scientist Ron O'Dor said. The fourth update of the census was released Sunday ahead of a meeting of hundreds of researchers that begins Tu…

This was a blessing to watch. It's the testimony of the former serial killer "son of sam" who will be in prison for the rest of his life I guess. A few thoughts we had after watching it - In Old Testament times he would have been killed right away. Now he's locked up in prison for life, but after watching this testimony, both my husband and I had the feeling like "he should be pardoned now" since he has reformed his ways. But yet there's life consequences for his actions. http://www.washedred.com/content/?contentID=32 This also got me thinking about people who have life terms. Some of them must be very aged by now. I never thought about the elderly in prison befo…

Let the Games Begin The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion. Prov. 28:1 Well, the Republicans got their butts kicked and I don't know of anyone who is surprised. John McCain was not a conservative no matter how much Republican-radio tried to convince us he was. Come on now, we're talking about a guy who had considered being John Kerry's running mate, had entertained the idea of adopting Al Gore's running mate Joe Lieberman as his own, who led the "gang of twelve" in blocking the filibustering of Supreme Court judges, who stuck his hand "across the aisle" so much he was as flexible as Gumby, and who was ultimately done-in by McCain-…

A new pro-life organization, Personhood USA, plans to assist local pro-life groups in different states to put personhood amendments on their states ballot by using the petition process. "Personhood has changed the abortion debate. Now we are asking, 'When does human life begin?' The opposition can not and will not answer this question, but we can. And when we answer that question, we win." http://personhoodusa.com/node/33

An Unnecessary Defeat? by Patrick J. Buchanan 11/07/2008 Why did John McCain lose? Let's start with those "headwinds" into which he was flying. The president of the United States, the leader of his party, was at Nixon-Carter levels of approval, 25 percent, going into Election Day. Sixty-two percent of the nation thought the economy was the No. 1 issue, and 93 percent thought the economy was bad. Two-thirds of the nation thought the war McCain championed was a mistake, and 80 percent to 90 percent thought the country was on the wrong course. As a political athlete, measured by charisma and communications skills, McCain is not even in the same league wit…

The Reign of Lame Falls Mainly on McCain by Ann Coulter 11/05/2008 Last night was truly a historic occasion: For only the second time in her adult life, Michelle Obama was proud of her country! The big loser of this election is Colin Powell, whose last-minute endorsement of Obama put the Illinois senator over the top. Powell was probably at home last night, yelling at his TV, "Are you KIDDING me? That endorsement was sarcastic!" The winner, of course, is Obama, who must be excited because now he can start hanging out in public with Bill Ayers and Rev. Jeremiah Wright again. John McCain is a winner because he can resume buying more houses. And we're all wi…

Could our government be overthrown? Do you think that would be possible? Could anyone get enough power, people behind them to do this? Do you think a president could ever go into office and refuse to step down?

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,447753,00.html This is a tough situation...but.... It seems to me this boy is dead and is only being kept alive artificially...similar to how they keep a body "going" in the case of organ donation. I feel for the parents though.

It seem to me that more and more people are getting into war of warcraft (WoW). Everyday, my hubby get pressured at work to try the game. it is also like drugs! one guy actually had him convinced, told him that war of warcraft is alot cheaper than buying a bunch of other games. So my hubby did the free trial. Thankfully, he didn't take too much interests in it. What do you think of the game?

Jonathan, my 2 year old son, quoted Ephesians 6:1 for me tonight. He did it for my dad, also, at church.

Man, what is with all the cancer these days? Seems like we are hearing more and more people dying of it. I am not sure if it is just that I'm getting older, or if its really happening more. I don't remember any of my parents' friends or acquaintences dying of cancer. Sometimes I look around and can't help but think "Man, when will my turn be?" Because it seems like it happens to everyone these days. Or is it just that as I grow older, and my circle of friends and acquaintences grows, so also do the statistics? I'm just thinking of the dear lady Jess mentioned....and my former dorm mom, Mrs. Leslie at FH....and the little girl who was in my church a few years a…

Anyone here ever had a couple of teeth filed down and capped? My front two teeth have been such a pain, they are like bunny teeth. haha. I really need braces but that's not really going to be an option due to price and also a genetic gum problem I have...it would be too hard to keep my gums healthy. Anyway if I could get my front two teeth filed down and capped (or whatever) it would even things up enough to where I'd be satisfied...but would this be super expensive? It just doesn't *sound* expensive...but then dentists do usually get "theirs" for sure. I want to call and ask but they'll probably make me come in and I'm not in the mood for that....
