Logical argument 1 2 3 4

We have to be very careful with our Scriptural logic, & follow where the Bible leads, & not impose our reasoning on God's revelation. The concept of the Trinity is understood by revelation, not logic. Logic says the white horse man in Rev. 6 is the all-conquering Lamb, because in Rev. 19 there is no doubt, yet some use logic to see him as the antichrist. Simple logic says the 70 weeks are 490 years, ending around 33 AD, yet some use other logic & see an indefinite gap between 69 & 70. Revelation overrides logical reasoning, as Paul makes very clear in 1 Cor. 1. 18For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us wh…

Tradition - what are your thoughts? 1 2 3 4

How important was tradition to Jesus? Two of the Gospels record Christ's thoughts on tradition none appear favorable. Matthew 15:2 Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. Matthew 15:3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? Matthew 15:6 And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. Mark 7:3 For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders. Mark 7:5 Then the Pharisees…

Probably just more garbage from Gnostics or Essenes but I thought this but be of interest. I found it interesting that there were "metal books" back 2,000 years ago. If these are authentic than the KJV tranlators were correct in using the word "book" instead of "scroll". Of course, "book" is considered an error by today's bible correctors since they claim there were no books, only scrolls 2,000 years ago. It seems there were books back 2,000 years ago. Here's the link. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1372741/Hidden-cave-First-portrait-Jesus-1-70-ancient-books.html

"the children of the wicked one" Wasn't there a topic/thread on this once here at OB? Maybe during the "fitted for destruction" discussions? If not, anyone ever study it and do you still have your references? I tried to search for anything here on this topic and couldn't find a jot or tittle. Matthew 13:38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;

Pastor Loses Job Amidst Rob Bell Debate http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/24/pastor-loses-job-amidst-r_0_n_840120.html I had never heard of this "Rob Bell" movement to renounce the Biblical hell. Maybe I'm behind the times or I don't spend enough time surfing for stuff. Or maybe I do need a facebook account! Oh, I still can't insert a link...more revelations!

"...of the Spirit of God..."

1 Corinthians 2:14 "But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." We are seeing first hand the truth of God's word! Just look back over the recent posts from betteroffdead. 1 John 5:19 "And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness." We've had some recent examples of this truth on the OB board. Usually we are all over these folks with scripture and show less compassion than we should. I'm glad to see restraint from myself as well as others. It could only be the Holy Spirit helping us to exercise care for a Christ starved i…

Strange as it sounds the question remains. Commandments from God are law no matter if spoken or written on tablets of stone. We know corporately the result of Adam's sin (Ro.5.12) but, how was Adam's sin as an individual dealt with? Judgement in Genesis 3:14-24 and redemption... Genesis 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them. ...was Adam redeemed here? Genesis 5:5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died. Romans 5:12-17 12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: 13 (For unt…

Do you believe that gospel preaching is on the decline? At a Baptist minister's fraternal recently, one retired pastor said that gospel preaching has declined and we should get back to having a gospel service every Lord's day. It split the meeting, with most oposing him. Not all that many years ago, most baptist, evangelical and Brethren would have a dedicated gospel service, but now they don't seem to. As one old deacon said to me a few years ago, hardly a Sunday passed without the preacher ending with something like: "The Lord masy come today, are you ready?"

There were truths which passed from the OT to the NT. Below are a couple, do you know any others? Justification Habakkuk 2:4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith. What were the OT scriptures verified by our Lord and Savior? Matthew 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

My wife's computer and printer are both wireless. I've performed the setup MANY times and some of it works for a while and then dies. So I began this morning attempting to install the printer software on the computer one last time. I must have run through the setup about 5 times and it was time for lunch. So, we sat down for our lunch and during prayer I asked the Lord to help me successfully install the printer for my wife. One half hour later the installation was complete along with the "control console app" (which we had never seen installed before). Works like a charm! Prayer...so simple! Praise God! I had overlooked the files associated with a "full" installation a…

Do you think the scriptures below show any relationship to the United States today, how? Proverbs 17:15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD. Proverbs 18:5 It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.

Hi all, I haven't been on much lately (for quite a while actually). Hope everyone is well and blessed in this new year. I had something I haven't heard before told to me this evening and wondered if anyone knew the root of it and the driving force behind the teaching. A gentleman (who claims to be a christian, but is often uttering false teachings - which I am sure he has heard from a number sources) told me this evening that the scriptures found in John 8 versus 3 through 11 are not in the original texts (I am assuming he refers to the TR, but didn't have the time to discuss it further). Has anyone heard this teaching before and, if so, do you know the root of it an…

Once again, I am not certain if this is the correct place to start this thread; if not, I trust it can be moved. At the congregation I have begun a class on hermeneutics. I am interrested in your thoughts on the subject. Specifically, I would like to know the teachings of the IFB on this. Of course, much can be said about this subject, but I am also interrested in your take on "silence of the scripture," i.e. is silence of the scripture binding or does it grant "freedom?" That is, if the Bible is silent about something am I then at liberty to do it or am I bound not to do it?

Titus 1:5ff and 1 Tim 3:1ff both speak of appointing "bishops" (also known as elders/shepherds/pastors/overseers). While I know that the Baptist call their preacher "a pastor," as I understand it, you do not appoint "Elders" (plural). I believe you do have deacons which are also spoken of in 1 Tim 3:8ff. Could someone please explain this a bit to me? I do not know why the Baptist orginize in this manner and am interresting in knowing more about why. Thank you to those who answer. If this is placed in the wrong place, I am sorry.

And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day. But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. Joh 5:16 -18 KJB:PCE The Jews are saying Christ is NOT equal with God! The Jews wanted to kill Christ because He said He was equal with God! NASB - who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself The NASB says the same thing that the Jews say in…

which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.” I Timothy 3:15 “But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, The church is not the truth, the word of God is. It is the responsibility and mission of the church to hold up the truth by being the ground and the pillar on which it stands. Without the local church, the truth falls to the ground and into OBscurity. As a Christian, you need to find a good church and stick with it. I’ve gone to church my whole life, and I’ve seen the good fruit of it in my life, my wife’s life, and my children’s lives. For every one bad story that y…
