Does anyone have an "Electronic KJV" and if they do are they helpful or useful? I am thinking of getting one for my husband for Christmas and I'm not sure which one to get or even if it's worth getting. I want to suprise him and therefore cannot ask.

Appreciate any advice, or if any of the men have a something they would like their wives to buy them please post. I'm desperate for ideas.

Thanks

Blossom'

P.S. I understand if you don't do the whole exchanging of present thing.

I have an old Franklin electronic Bible (KJB) and I love it, although I seldom use it any more with all this computer stuff. It served me well when I was working though--small enough to put in my lunch box, and what better meal could one have for lunch than the Bread of Life?

It is basically a set of books in compact form; I don't know about the modern-day e-Bibles, but mine does about everything you want it to do. I personally think it is a great gift for any hubby who is interested in reading/studying the Word of God. Great gift idea!

Thanks Irishman, the Franklin ones are still around. The newer ones have dictionaries, bookmarks, play hymns etc. I think I'll keep researching.

Thanks again

When I had Franklin electronic bible, it was very handy to do a word search for certain topic while I'm out town.

But it broke, so I don't have it anymore :( Someone stepped on my purse

I'm thinking of e-bible right now, especially the ones that can speak. I do not have a very good speech, and I hate reading the bible at loud because I can't pronounce some of the words (being severely Hard of hearing all your life with very little help from your parents and school, you are limited to 4th grade level. If I was taught Sign language plus verbal communication, I know I could communicate with my son effectively that way)

It might be cheaper to get some kind of Ipod/Iphone, Blackberry, etc. that has apps for the KJV Bible. There are ones that have audio files, so you can listen to the KJV; some that include other good Christian books (though discernment is required) and study materials. For the amount you would be paying for an electronic Bible by itself - it really is worth considering something like this. I had always wanted an electronic KJV - almost bought one a few years ago (basically the only added features it had were a few little cartridges you could buy to have Strong's Concordance or another Bible translation). I also wanted an MP3 player to listen to sermons. In February of this year, I purchased an Ipod Touch, which had the ability for both - and has more memory than my home computer.

Can you explain more about these things or provide links? I admit, technology has completely gotten away from me and I haven't a clue about Ipods, MP3s, Blackberries, or any of this stuff.

MP3s are just audio files (could be music or speaking). A lot of the newer phones actually have applications (programs) you can download for them (think of a phone with games on it - those are actually programs that you can download). Some phones can be pretty expensive, unless you get into a contract with a company for so many minutes or so much internet usage a month.

I have an Ipod Touch - and basically it is a handheld mini-computer that you can do a lot with. It is almost the same as an Iphone, but without a phone, camera or video recording, or a microphone to record audio or speak into - and also no contract is necessary, as I am not using "air-time", and when I use the Internet, I can only access free Internet or ones I can access with a password (ie. I can use the wireless Internet in my apartment, as well as access the Internet for free if I am in a coffee shop). You can go to the Apple website to find out more about Ipod Touch and Iphone.

I was thinking that if someone was to spend several hundred dollars for just a Bible program itself, they might be better off buying one of these devices instead - because then you can do more with it (ie. not just read the Bible, but download/purchase other study materials for it, and use these resources to study with, take notes on the device itself, etc.). Plus, you could add sermons and put godly music on it (like you would with an MP3 player) to listen to away from home. These devices can often play videos. There are literally thousands and thousands of types of applications you can purchase or download for free. Most Bible applications are free (and often come with the King James Bible as the default Bible version), though many of the added resources cost. The Bible program I use o my Ipod Touch is from Mantis Bible

Unless he has it filled to capacity, you should easily be able to download a Bible program onto it. The program I use has the ability to search for words, phrases, etc.

I own an ITouch as well. A great investment, especially if you are around wireless internet a lot. I use it for e-mail, web browsing, looking up things in the Bible, reading my PDF books, playing games, studying Greek and etc. You may already know this but you can buy a headset with a mic and use it for recording on the ITouch.
