Where in the U.S. Constitution is America obligated or authorized to police the world?

.

America is a melting pot. If they are legal immigrants from other countries, I guess they do have the rights to be concerned for their family back at home and ask the President to do something. Just a thought.

I guess what I wonder is when can/will it be over ?

In the older wars(WWI WWII ) they finally surrendered and treaties were made .

Since those wars I am not sure when a war is over .

I also don't get why some dictators are left free (I am thinking of Castro ) and others are not (think Sadam) ?

Again I ask what is the purpose of the troops still being there? What is the mission ?

I do not think we should be a police to other nations .

I agree Jerry, Bush did the right thing with the information he had. I also agree the military commanders on the ground need to be given much more freedom to plan, and execute. Some things require political oversight while other do not. Because most politicians are power hungry they tend to blur the lines between military command and civilian control.

Many Bush haters have used the intelligence failures and tactical failures to "get Bush" it isn't just the Dems though, many "conservatives" have done the same thing only in a slightly different way.

IMHO America as a whole does not have the guts to fight a war or to do what needs to be done to actually win a war.

For example there have been a little over 3000 US troops killed in Iraq in WWII there were approximately 405,000 US servicemen killed and approximately 50-60 Million killed worldwide. What do you think the reaction to numbers like those would be today in the age of Cindy Sheehan and the rest of the screaming ninnies.

I am with you guys on this! I do believe Bush did what he thought was best to protect American Citizens. My only complaint is that congress would not let him go far enough - it is enough to make me change parties I tell you what!

I know that the current levee system was built during the 30s as part of the WPA project to put dust-bowl depression era men back to work. I still think that building a similar wall to protect our Mexican and Canadian borders would do a lot to enhance the security of our country. I am not the only one to think this - I found a pretty cool article that discusses the current debate... http://blogs.washingtonpost.com/thedeba ... _wall.html

I do know that the current measures being taken to enhance our security seem stupid and futile - like not being allowed to carry nail clippers, or underarm deodorant on airlines for example. I am not one to believe we ought to keep "peace keeping forces" all around the world, especially at the expense of leaving the mainland of our country vulnerable to attack. Our soldiers remained in Germany about 2 years after WWII was over in order to restore the peace. I think we ought to help the Iraqis if help is what they want - however, you can't help people who do not want to be helped. If they are going to continue with this attitude that we "infedels" are defiling their country then they are going to have to be made to understand that the only way we are going to leave is through unconditional surrender - they can't make us leave until they decide to stop fighting us. If we go now, just because the Cindy Sheehans of this world are boo-hooing about their children, then they are going to be under the unmistakable impression that they have "won" this fight and they are continue to spread murder and mayhem throughout the world. They will assume that we are a country of weak and weepy women who do not have the nerve to stand up to them. The Soviet Union pulled out under similar cirumstances which is exactly what has made them so bold and daring today.

Well...we went down to DC today...

I think there was a revival of flower-children down there. 60's people that never grew up. lol Unbeknownst to us, there was a massive anti-war protest at the capital today. People from all over the country were there and there were cops and news stations all over the place. All the hippies, radicals, and "moderate" liberals were there with there "out of Iraq," "impeach Bush," and "peace and love" signs. I had a hard time controlling myself. It was extremely difficult to get anywhere near the main museums because the crowd was enormous and they were all over the sidewalks so it was hard to get away from it.

I could've gotten away without temptations to confront any of them until on our way back to our car we passed a guy flying an upside down American flag. I had a very strong desire to let that guy have a piece of my mind but I allowed a nasty look to suffice. lol

Really, these people disgust me. No respect for authority or our country.

Whether we agree with them or not, they are simply excercising their rights to assemble and petition the government.

An upside down American flag is simply a sign of distress; a sign that help is needed. Seeing such wouldn't bother me. It's when they start shredding the flag or burning the flag that my ire is raised. But the Supreme Court has ruled that is a legitmate right of free speech so I suppose I should calm down.

The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

The man at the protest was not in "dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property" Therefore it was displaying the flag in a disrespectful manner.

They have their right to free speech and I have mine. I would not hesitate to tell them how I feel about their protest while our troops are in harms way.

I never said the man with the upside down flag was right. I was pointing out the reason he was doing that is because he is trying to say that America is in distress because of what he was protesting against. No, that's not what the upsidedown flag sign is meant for, but that was the reason. I've seen people on both the right and left use that. Personally, I wouldn't.

Yes Tim, we do all have the same rights and we should excercise them prudently and appropriately. The liberals love to shout down anyone against them because they only value free speech if it's speech they agree with.

When was the last time a group of coservatives gathered to shout down a liberal speaker? The opposite, groups of liberals getting together to shout down a conservative speaker, happens frequently.

It can be difficult to get our position out and that is one of the evils of political correctness, hate crimes laws, etc.

The last time I saw an American flag flying upside down was after the Supreme Court's Kelo decision (immenent domain).

I thought it was appropriate then, as I'm sure most of you would have also.

Isn't it interesting how the same thing done by someone whose motives we disagree with becomes offensive?
