With each new year it seems more people are getting more and more conscience of their physical health, and less conscience of their spiritual health.

But it seems that those of the world are driving God's children to worry more about quantity of years on this earth instead of quality of years on this earth. I can see why those who are of this world who do not have that blessed hope worry so much about taking care of their body and live as long as possible. I feel sure if all I had to look forward to I would do everything under the sun to lengthen my life as much as possible and grasping at every straw I could get hold of.

Don't get me wrong, I going to try not to abuse my body, but I am not going to worry about length of life. I have put that in God's hands, he can handle it so much better than I. At the same time I'm not going to buy and take every supplement that man comes up with that promises me a long life. I'm going to let my faith in God take care of that. I can do that because I know to be absent from this body is to be present with the Lord, I have 100% faith that Jesus can do what He has promised.

Can't remember the verse right now but Paul wrote something about that our spiritual health was worth much more than our physical health.

I have heard of people who take many types of supplements to find out later on when a doctor does blood work that because of all the stuff they put in their bodies that some of the levels in their body are to high and causing them troubles.

One thing is happening for sure, we are getting many more people who are overweight that seems to not worry many the least bit, but they are cramming all kinds of supplements down their throat to try and stay healthy and get quantity of years.

Them I see others go to the extreme, they work out regularly and they look fit as a horse, but I have seen a few of this type die at an early age. These people eat that stuff that is suppose to be extremely healthy. OH, they look good for sure, but few of them worry the least bit about their spiritual life.

But going back to excess weight, in years gone by this was not near as common, the reason being most people worked manual labor so they burnt off what they eat, so their body did not have none to store up as most people do today.

And in years gone by people really had better eating habits, they did not eat off and on thru out the day as many do today. Its quite amazing at the people who walk into convenience stores and come out with something held in a napkin that they're eating along with a candy bar stuck in their pocket or in other cases stuck in their purse to eat for desert. OH, chances are their drinking a diet drink or even water to save on calories and try and stay healthy.

I might add to, in by gone days many did not have near the food to eat that we do today, many just had enough to get them by.

So with my life I shall try for quality, not quantity, them if my Lord gives me quantity, them I will try to make sure its quality, I'm reminded of that by one of our church members who died last year.

Last year we had an elderly woman who was a member of our church who died. Most of her life, even after her husband died she raise most things that she ate. For the last few years meat was scarce on her table. Her grocery bill would run her about 15 dollars per week. She always canned vegetables from her garden to get her thru the winter month. Up until cancer got hold of her she worked like a horse. She would have probably weighed 125 to 130 pounds, stood about 5' 5", before the cancer got hold of her body, she could probably out work most men who were 30 to 40 years younger than her up until she hit 77 and the cancer took hold of her body.

Before her husband died in about 98 they did eat meats, some they grew, some they bought at the grocery store. And in the last few years her daughter did buy some meats and bring to her at times.

Up until she got cancer she took no medicines, did not need them. She took no supplements, did not have the money to buy them even if she wanted them. I believe it was about 4 years before she got cancer when she went to a doctor for the 1st time except for when her 3 children were born years ago. I might add to, in the last few years she did take some Tylenols every now and again. Who would not at 70 years of age, working a larger garden every year and doing anything and everything to keep her place going. Even clearing out her wood heaters stove pipe in the fall every year, climbing on top of her house to do it. Did I mention cutting fire wood, that was what heated her house. I might add about 3 years ago her nephew put a new tin roof on her house, that's right, she was up there on the roof nailing down tin right along side of him.

Did I tell you about the tree house she built for one of her grandsons? That is right, I suppose she was 74 when she built that tree house about 15 feet up in the air between 2 tree that were rather close together. Can't you see a 74 year old woman leaning the ladder against a tree going up it carrying lumber, nails, hammers, saws and building a tree house? It had a floor & a roof. it was about 6 feet from the floor to the ceiling of the roof. It has walls, a trap door, windows on all 4 sides.

And I have to say this, which being her pastor I knew it. It was amazing at the people who would visit her them come to me and say, I've never met a person who was facing death as she is with such peace, she is not the lest bit scared of death, many of them wanted me to explain how she could be this way. Oh it was so easy to explain, she had complete faith in Jesus that He was going to keep what she trusted to Him. I tell you for sure, thru the last days of her life she touched many hearts with the faith she excised and proclaimed in her Lord Jesus Christ.

I have to add this to, this woman was content. She did not have fancy or numerous earthly possession, she did not lust after them. She had her small house, a few acres of land which was let to them by her husband father, and old car and she was in the church every time church services were taking place.

I might add, anytime you went to her house she would be working, but would stop what ever she was doing to set and visit with you.

I know that for some 76 years don't seem like enough, but it really depends on the quality of those 76 years. Up until the cancer started getting her down in early 2007, she was going full steam. I know many would look down on her because she did not have enough earthly possessions, fancy house, fancy car, did not run with the right people, did not have friends in high places, but we all can learn a lesson from her. If we will really trust God, put all our faith in Him we all can be content with much less than what we have. Makes me think of what Jesus said, where your treasure are, that is where your heat is, anyone who come around her, when they left they had no doubt where her treasure were, they were not stored up in earthly possession but in Jesus Christ.

Are we going for quantity years or quality years. But even more than they what impression are we making on others? If we don't live it day to day we want make a godly impression on those we pass in life as this lady did.

Can someone show me this in the Bible?

I would be interested in seeing those verses too.

The reason I asked HappyChristian if she knew of a Bible verse is because our former pastor taught that God's reason for telling Noah to eat meat ,after the flood, was that eating meat gave protection from demons. I just wondered if there was any scripture to back it up.

I have actually read that in some charismatic or pentecostal books on spiritual warfare - though it is thoroughly unfounded, as is most of their theology and practices.

Charismatics do have a lot of wacky stuff when it comes to their idea of spiritual warfare but I've never come across that one.

I recall hearing it preached, and reading it in books, that when Paul is saying that he's absent from them but "present in the spirit", that means his spirit was actually there with them judging matters! They have some teachings that if we are "holy enough" (not how they put it, but what it boils down to) we can move about in our spirits and confront demons in the spiritual realm.

Some Charismatic teachings in this area are downright scary when you think of what they are really getting people into.

I have heard it just like Jerry has and if I recall it was in some book on Spiritual warfare. A book called "Invisible war" maybe? I am not sure, it has been a while, but I definitely have heard it some place before and it definitely has no scriptural support.

Oh I don't doubt y'all have heard it and that some Charismatics would preach and teach such. I've never heard that one, but I've heard many other off the wall claims by Charismatics. Some Charismatics live for "spiritual warfare" and they see demons in everything.

It's like some of them teach that whatever we say is what's going to be. I don't recall the various verses of Scripture they twist for this, but according to them, if we say "this is going to be a bad day", then it will be just because we said so. Of course, they teach if we get sick (which they say is a demonic attack, naturally) that if we speak words of healing and feeling good then we will quickly be well and feel good. :roll

I didn't think so.

I didn't know it had pentecostal origins.
The pastor who taught this in our church was IFB to the core.
