Members Jerry Posted July 28, 2008 Members Posted July 28, 2008 Don't see any Gospel in that song. What is the power - doesn't specify. Which Bible passage teaches strength falls down like rain (doesn't even make sense!!) - must have missed that one. Book of Second Opinions or is that the Book of Presumptions?

Members PreacherE Posted July 28, 2008 Members Posted July 28, 2008 The lyrics of that song are pretty good! The lyrics may sound good, but the music behind them is as ungodly as the group singing them. If this is a Christian group then why would he have U2 listed as one of his favorite bands along with a bunch of other rock groups. This is one of the biggest problems I have with CCM. Some of the singers and groups may very well be saved, but they definitely ain't pleasing Christ with their lifestyle and their choices when it comes to their music. In Christ, PreacherE
Members Jerry Posted July 28, 2008 Members Posted July 28, 2008 I agree - the odd sound song (lyrics-wise) is not balanced with good music and a set apart lifestyle.

In Christ, PreacherE Bono claims to be a Christian, so that may be why... I like the words to that song, very much. But I don't like the way it's sung, personally.
Guest Guest Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Bono claims to be a Christian, so that may be why... I like the words to that song, very much. But I don't like the way it's sung, personally. I believe that Bono and The Edge claim to be Christians. Supposedly, Billy Graham led them to the Lord in the 1980's. The actor, Steven Baldwin was saved after 9-11. He has publically ridiculed U2 for not praising the Lord Jesus Christ in their music as he feels they are saved. He has done this because he has a friendship with Bono and because he wants the group to get away from their Rock-n-Roll music and start writing and singing Gospel music. It sounds like "tough love." :smile LuAnne, that is how I feel about CCM. I love the words, but I don't care for the way the songs are sung. Someone stated on OB that they have taken a CCM song and made a Gospel hymn out of it. It is Southern Gospel, though. Lately, I have heard 2 CCM songs done in Gospel format. It is quite edifying to the Lord, IMO.

Members Jerry Posted July 29, 2008 Members Posted July 29, 2008 I believe that Bono and The Edge claim to be Christians. Supposedly' date=' Billy Graham led them to the Lord in the 1980's.[/quote'] They are not Christian by any Bible definition. One of their recent tours entitled something like "The One" (or that was a slogan they used), and had three religious symbols on their stage: the cross, the star of David, and the muslim half moon symbol - implying that all these religions are one OR desiring them to be one.
Guest Guest Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 The members here who disagree with you are not blindly following tradition or their pastors. Many of us are familiar with CCM and have made a prayerfully informed decision to stay away from it. Again' date=' any more anti-Baptist comments will get you another warning. We are Baptists - deal with it, or move on. We are Baptists because we believe Baptist Distinctives and the Baptist denomination historically line up with the Bible.[/quote'] How about anti-traditionalist statements? Does not the Bible, itself, warn us about the traditions of men? Mark 7:8 - "For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do."Mark 7:9 - "And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition."Mark 7:13 - "Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye." To be fair, it also speaks positively of some traditions: 1 Corinthians 11:2 - "Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you." In parallel translations, the ordinances are also seen as traditions (although I see them as much more than mere tradition).2 Thessalonians 2:15 - "Therefore brethren stand fast and hold the traditions which ye have been taught whether by word or our epistle." Traditions being the key word, here - lets' take it back to the Greek. It seems that traditions and ordinances are interchangeable terms, up until they describe the traditions that pertain to those of man-made origins.tradition, ordinance????????? or ?????????? or ?????????? or ????????? From paradidomi; transmission, i.e. (concretely) a precept; specially, the Jewish traditionary law -- ordinance, tradition. Obviously, you do not think your traditions to be vain and I would say the same for my own traditions, outside of those commanded by Christ to the church: the ordinances. The verse I tie it all up with is one I have already used, Mark 7:13. It is said that the Word of God is made of "none effect" through the practicing of our own traditions! How can the Word of God, which is sharper than a two-edged sword be nullified? Break out our traditions. I would not stand and accuse any member here of following tradition only, for to do so - I would first have to remove the beam from my own eye (not to mention that I do not know anyone on here well enough to even consider making such an observation). So, what was the point of my post? Some of you already know, but for those of you who do not: Christ's earthly ministry was one that shook the very foundations of the world, not only in His death but more through His life than is ever noted. He became relevant to society, he threw out traditions that were no longer expedient to His kingdom, and He made the religiously traditionalists upset. Christ's ministry was nothing but relationships. How did He relate? He washed feet, He drew water, He ate with sinners, He challenged traditional authority, He spoke aloud about God without fear of speaking away from what had always been taught, He taught a new type of tolerance, and He loved. Above all, He loved. If we, as a church, are too afraid of the effects of changing or doing away with traditions, we will soon cease to be relevant where it matters. In this sense, the church will become more of a hindrance than a help to the many lost. If the lost person cannot relate, then how can we even attempt to fulfill the great commission? The tricky part is adapting without compromising truth; to this end, I do not envy the position of a pastor. Not without giving up a few of our pet projects or "firm personal convictions", for in holding onto then, we place our desires above the spiritual needs of others. This cannot be what Paul intended when he told the church at Thessalonica, "Therefore brethren stand fast and hold the traditions which ye have been taught whether by word or our epistle." I say this to myself, as well, as I constantly battle against what I would like to see (for comfort's sake) and what is needed. Thanks for reading this extremely long post (if you did), and know that I showed you a piece of my heart. I assure you, this post was written with anything but a satirical or assuming motive.

Beauty that made this heart adore you hope of a life spent with you.
