There are many Christians out there that do not believe in the inerrancy of the Bible. However, the Bible clearly states that it is inerrant. Take a look at these verses with my own commentary:

Psa 12:6 KJV The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
Psa 12:7 KJV Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

As this verse says, the words of the Lord are pure words as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times! We know that according to Biblical numerology, seven is the perfect number. Therefore, the Bible is here saying that the Bible is perfect.

In verse 7 it says that the Lord will keep his words and that he will preserve them from this generation forever. We have his preserved word in the KJV Bible.

2Ti 3:16 KJV All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17 KJV That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

And here we see that all scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness. We also see in verse seventeen that the Bible is all we need for the man of God to be perfect and thoroughly furnished for all good works.

If the Bible is given by inspiration of God then it must be inerrant! God would not inspire a fallible document!

I don't really know of any other verses in the Bible that support the inerrancy of the Bible but if you know of any, please do post them.

not sure of any right off. that was a great post though. problem is, the people who don't believe in the bible's inerrancy are hard to convince, because they will tell you its just an exaggeration. someone hit the spell check seven times or something like that. well, maybe on the MVs, but not on the KJV.

Maybe I've been living under a rock but I've never met a Christian that believes anything other than Biblical inerrancy. As Ashlee stated, the difficulties lie within which translation is closest to the original books which were not written in English.

You're right - one of the fundamentals of the faith is the inspiration (and I would add, the inerrancy) of the Scriptures. Some may not have a good understanding of this doctrine on a practical basis, but no true Christian would consciously deny it.

amen.

i have a friend who claims to be christian, but shows no evidence and is very closed to talking about it. she claims that most of the bible is metaphor or exaggeration. such as noah's ark, or the burning bush.

This was such a key issue with me when I was first saved and during the first several years afterwards. It seemed so clear to me that the Word of God had to be complete, perfect and true in every respect. If not, then God couldn't be perfect and His Word to us would be open to various interpretations outside of what Scripture clearly says because the door would be wide open for anyone to determine on their own what is and isn't right and important in the Bible.

I encountered so many professing Christians who either wouldn't say they believe the whole Bible is God's true and perfect Word, or they would say they believed that but wouldn't allow some parts of the Bible to have the appropriate influence on their lives.

Time and again I would hear, "You can't take all of that literally." Or, "We can't really live like that today." Or, "Well, a lot of that stuff was for folks back then or over in that part of the world, it doesn't apply to us today."

I'm so thankful that our God is greater than that! He has blessed us with His perfect Word to guide us to salvation and a life lived for Him. All we need to know is in the Word of God and we can trust it all.

Try reading that in the NIV, particularly verse 7.
