Members DaveW
"vociferous" Great word........ Love it...... Some words have a great sound - this is one of them.... Voe..... siff...... errr..... uss....... Great sound........... (Wanted to note the use of this great word, but didn't want to disrupt the thread where it was used in a relevant and skillful fashion. Members DaveW
I like "Papadums" too. The actual food is fine, but the word is just a fun word. I used to know someone who absolutely cringed whenever someone said "moist". Funny how words can do that totally independent of their meaning. Moderators Salyan Posted June 29, 2017 Moderators Share Posted June 29, 2017 There's a word for that: onomatopoeia. It's for when words sound like what they mean. Never tried a papadum, but I love Tim Tam Slams!

Never tried a papadum, but I love Tim Tam Slams! Oh yeah...... it is more than onamata a a a whatevery....... It is not that they sound like what they are - it is just that some words sound "nice" or "funny" or "clean" or something. Papadums for instance sound like fun - but the actual item is just a fried cracker type bread you have with certain Indian foods. Vociferous is just a sharp and somewhat intimidating word - it is kinda like a "I am neat and crisp, but don't mess with me" kinda word...... Papadums is kinda goofy and easygoing - like that slightly overweight jolly friend that everyone likes to have around - you know he is going to make you feel good about the world...... Members No Nicolaitans
Speaking of "iferous" words, it's funny that you mention it. One of my favorite words is splendiferous.
