I am not to sure it is all bad to show a good pastor high honor.  I will call a Pastor by the title Dr. if he has earned it, however, I shy away from calling one "reverend".

1 Timothy 5:17 (KJV)
17  Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

Is it a higher honor to be "Pastor" than "Missionary"? Is it a "lesser" pastor who has 55 years of faithful, studious, Scriptural service but no "high Paper" vs one with 7 yrs of "formal" education and 15 years of similar service??

Those who minimize "exposure" to their degree level often do it to avoid this (many times unintentional and subconscious) comparative mentality.

When I first became a pastor, I LOVED being called 'reverend". The Lord sure knocked the wind out of my sails on that!

I am actually where I am not big on being called "Pastor" anything, because its a description of a jOB, not a title. It means 'shepherd'. Would you call a sheep herder, "Shepherd Mike"? If not, why is 'Pastor Mike" any better?   I don't mind if people call me 'preacher' which is generally how I address other, well, preachers, but the title thing I don't much like.

I am (slowly) working on my doctorate, and the only time I will like being called 'Doctor" is at work, when my supervisors say, "Hey, Reed," and I can say, "That's DOCTOR Reed, if you please!"  Heh heh!

A higher seat? Would that be a high chair? We have one of them for the grand-babies.

One of those fancy gold chairs with red swede padding. A Lion Head up top.  :)

Those who think they deserve more honor for learning from books than those who learn by doing have a pride prOBlem . . . . in my humble opinion.

God bless,

Larry

I think if they wear the title with pride there is a prOBlem.  But in truth, if they've earned it (as in studying, not just being granted it), I don't see a prOBlem.  I call my chiropractor Doctor (well, Doc, really  ), and my medical doctor Doctor. *shrug* I don't see a big difference, honestly.  They all went to school for whatever doc they earned.  Just my opinion - not denigrating anyone who believes differently.

But I call no man Father.
