Wouldn't it be wrong to join the Military

I can't imagine this post will do much good, but I think I need to post it...

There are, I would say, three main reasons I would not join the military:
1. I really don't think killing is right.
2. There would be female personnel.
3. This country is hardly worth defending.

1. I really don't think killing is right.During a time of war, it is not murder...if it were wrong, then God had the Israelites become corporate murderers cleaning out the land He was giving them.
2. There would be female personnel. This is true, and a sad thing about our society today.
3. This country is hardly worth defending. Sorry you feel that way. I'm sure you would agree, though, that there are people in this country worth defending? And that is reason enough for those who do join - especially those who believe God would have them so to do.

Ma'am, things have changed in that area from the Old Testament to the New. I don't see Christians going out and slaying a bunch of Roman soldiers.

But Crush, God doesn't change. He is the same forever. So, if all killing is wrong, what the Israelites did under God's command in the OT was wrong. Man - they killed babies, women, chopped up kings!! But it's okay for the OT times?

Hopefully you know that the former paragraph was written kind of tongue-in-cheek. But it is exactly what many people say to try and discredit the God of the OT = saying that He couldn't possibly be the same as Jesus.

Seriously, though - if all killing is wrong, then God was wrong in the OT. And we know that He wasn't.

Self-defense and war haven't changed, Crush. If you think so, that's fine. But I will guarantee you something - if someone were to get into your house and try to hurt your mom, or after you're married, try to hurt your wife, and the only option for protection is for you to kill that person - before they rape and murder your loved one...you're going to sit there and say killing is wrong for any reason? No, you won't. At least, you won't if you take seriously the verse that says a man who doesn't provide for his house is worse than an infidel. Part of that provision is protection...even if that protection means taking the life of the one who is intent on harming and/or killing your family. You may not think so now, but if it happens...

And it's not spoken of in a bad light here,,,,,,,, Christians are admonished to be "good soldiers" in the faith[bible]2 Timothy 2:3,4[/bible]

A good soldier is a faithful servant. Being a soldier is a job, and that honourable job is to defend one's people. If America did not have a military, we would be over-run right now. And History confirms that would not be a pretty sight.
To those in the armed forces....Thank you for doing what you do. We should all be more grateful.

You're correct, ma'am, He doesn't. But sometimes He makes us.

You won't find Titus or Paul going out with a sword and killing people.

Excepts I'm not saying that, ma'am, as I would not be a believer if I was.

But I do not see Him gathering Christian men in the New Testament and having them overthrow the Roman Empire.

I don't even carry handguns myself. But I've been a deer hunter for years and know how to handle a gun. Neither my wife, daughter, mother, or sister have any desire to hunt, shoot or kill anythging...and I like it that way.There isn't a woman alive who is more 'ladylike' than my wife, daughter or any of our womenfolk.
But I would much rather have them blow away some pervert to his 'long home', than have one of them harmed.

I have this cat on my farm. She stays at home, minds her own business, feeds her three babies,, gives them their baths, takes care of her 'cat nest'.... She is a model mother, and the tomcat thinks she is very ladylike and attractive. But I saw our weimeraner get a lttle too close to those kittens the other day, and he found out very quickly that this mother cat has WEAPONS....and knows how to use them. Although he is about ten times her size, she lit in to that dog like a tornado and sent him packing. God equipped horses with teeth and hooves, cattle with horns, cats with teeth and claws. Most every female has some means of defending herslf. So what's unlady like about a woman being able to defend herself?

Well, Crush, you have given absolutely no scripture to justify your idea that a woman with a gun is unfeminine. I agree that they can be, but women without guns can be unfeminine (it's interesting that a great majority of rabid feminists hate guns....). Feminity comes from the inside, not from what is carried in a purse or pocket (or holster - I know, I know, that's REALLY unfeminine).

It's wonderful, Crush, that you will trust the Lord to protect your wife. God does protect. But as you stated in your post, there are depraved men in this world...and it is getting worse (& that is precisely why we need to be as wise as serpents, as well as harmless as doves, and have protection). My best friend was a Christian. And she wasn't doing anything wrong when she was attacked. She was simply doing laundry. The two girls I mentioned were Christian girls, raised in Christian homes. They were attacked. Bad things happen to godly people, Crush. Praise the Lord that nothing has happened to your mom in 20+ years of marriage. Nothing has happened personally to me in 20+ years either. But that doesn't mean it won't in the future! Yes, I trust God, and I praise Him that nothing has happened. But if something does, and neither of my guys are around, I will need some form of protection. And believe me, standing there pointing a gun at someone who is planning on harming me will not deplete me of any of my femininity.

Yes, Crush, femininity is lacking in women and girls today. But isn't it interesting...in the days of the founding of our country, women were feminine (well, not all of them...we have always been human). And the greater majority of women not only knew how to shoot, they carried rifles with them. Why? Well, because they needed the protection, that's why! And their men were not always around to protect, so they provided that protection by providing weapons.

BTW - I never even intimated that God gathered men to go after the Roman government. But guess what? WE don't live under the Roman government. Comparing America to NT governmental times doesn't make any sense, biblically or practically.

Sir, I think you will agree this is quite a difference between animals and humans. Femininity, while it does to a point, does not exist much among animals.

Take lionesses, for example.
