But all we have to do is look at the facts. I can say that bars originated from satanic meeting houses but does that make it true? Sure' date=' we don't like bars and we think they're wrong but does it make it right to make an unfounded statement about it? Of course not, it just makes me look foolish and Christians make themselves look foolish when they propagate unfounded conspiracy theories. I mean, come on, they're saying Dracula was a real person. :bonk:[/quote']

I think there is enough evidence to say that Count Vlad Dracula of Romania was indeed a real person in the 15th century. He was a bloody, evil man. The legend of him being a vampire might have sprung from his evil ways but he was a real person.

Here is a site that provides several sources of documentation: http://dracula-transylvania.blogspot.com/

Here's an interesting site from a druid:

http://www.neopagan.net/Halloween-Origins.html

He points out some errors and lies that have circulated about Halloween, but he also points ou the truth - that Oct. 31 was seen as the night when the dead could come back to the earth and wander amongst the living (Samhein, pronounced "Sow-en").

Yep. I have always believed that Bakers. Thanks for the information.

People love to take truth and mix it with legend, though.

Can't wait for it again. I am just amazed at how many churches actually do Halloween activities and how many Christians lie to their children about Santa.

Yes, me too. My kids have always known the truth right from the start, and once our kids are educated about Santa, we just never talk about it much and focus everything around Jesus. I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving coming. Between the commercialization of Halloween and Christmas, it seems that Thanksgiving is all but lost in our nation. I mean, they have had Christmas decorations out at most of our stores here in Michigan for better than 2 or 3 weeks!

I am very blessed that my son was always afraid of anything that was in costume. Santa and the Easter Bunny always spooked him. Forget about Halloween...he was way too frightened to even think about a costume. LOL. This was way before I was saved. Maybe he knew something that I didn't?

Halloween, on the surface, is wicked enough that ANY Christian should avoid it. Any historical facts should just be "extra" without actually doing anything to change our convictions about the day.

My parents knew it was wicked as unsaved people. :Green

It really doesn't take much to figure that out. :lol I tell people to look what happens on that night. All the sickos come out of the woodwork.

In the UK it's mostly seen as a US thing and it is overshadowed by Guy Fawkes night on the 5th November.

Altogether, now:

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder treason,
Should ever be forgot.

I agree with the general consensus of Halloween; it definitely springs from a pagan source and should be shunned by Christians. I simply don't like the 'feeling' I'm getting from this thread that it's somehow okay to give unproven or spurious 'historical' reasons for why something is wrong. If we cannot provide legitimate historical proof for stories we share (like the origin of houses of terror), we provide an opportunity for the world to despise Christianity even more. After all, we say lying or deception is wrong, then we use unprovable stories to prove our own point. How is that any different from the actions we have condemned in them?

Please understand, I am not accusing anyone in this thread of lying to or deceiving anyone else. I simply think it is far too common for us as Christians to share information that we find interesting without taking the time to prove our sources.
