Whats the real story behind Carbon 14 Dating ? Also what stance should a believer take as far as creation ?

Progressive Day creation seems (if I read it right) too much like the big bang except with a different twist to it. I have always took to a Young Earth stance. Always thought science backed it air tight. However, some of what used to be Young Earth has been seemingly revised. I know Ken Ham from http://www.answersingenesis.com is a a stout Young Earth believer, so am curious to hear what the feedback might be......

For the carbon dating to be correct, one must assume that an object had a certain amount of carbon there to begin with, in order to measure the half-lives. Since we do not know how much carbon God put in things to begin with, the carbon dating is impossible to use on things unless you have proof of the original carbon amount. In which case you probably don't need to use the dating method. haha.

The bible teaches a literal six day creation and a "young earth". However, the science behind many things is not "air tight". Science changes all the time, at no time do scientists have all the facts on everything, indeed, they only rarely have all the facts on anything. As scientists either learn or think they learn, they make changes, that is the nature of science. Fortunately, God has all the facts on everything at all times and when he makes a statement we can believe it without fear that it will later be revised. :wink

Good posts folks! :thumb

Suzy is correct in that dating carbon 14 is based upon assuming the amount of carbon 14 in all things is known. It's also based upon assuming that carbon 14 is always released consistent amounts over time. Of course, none of these assumptions are valid.

Along with molesks and frogs, trees and other living things were carbon dated as having been dead for millions of years.

God tells us in His Word how all things were created and the fact this was accomplished in a literal 6 days. Scripture also tells us the approximate age of creation and it's very young.

And diamonds were formed during the flood....so that count would be somewhat accurate depending on the numbers...

They also say diamonds are the result of millenia of extremely high pressure.

So funny that the flood created the perfect method to create diamonds...yet of course to admit that would be to admit there is a God.

Okay, I asked this because at one time had an intrest in archeology. I was facinated with it. So I was also thinking about signing up for the BAR (Biblical Archeology Review) Magazine........ A six time a year magazine, only about 200 issues old, but daily, weekly and monthly e-mailed articles too as one subscribes. It looks to be a good magazine. Heres the linkage for it...... http://www.bib-arch.org/ Any feed back on this would be welcome. I just tonight e-mail them to ask them their stance on C-14 and creation to see what kind of reponse I might get back from them on it. I seem to have a bias thing. A gotta know thing for me. As in how close do they actually support what the bible really says. However I don't like to make people feel like they're getting fried sunny side up and slapped on a hot plate. You know ! LOL :cooldude:

I don't think it really matters what the carbon 14 dating says.

The Earth appears to be old just like Adam appears to be mature when he was first formed. If I was Adam's age when he was first made, I would be just an infant.

Secretly, I sometime think God controlled the time when he made the Earth, and that he made it like you see when you press Fast-Forward on VCR or DVR

Hey, TS. I took Archeology at Kent State University.

I am not sure how much they support the Bible, now---or if they do? Just be careful, b/c, personally---I want you to stay with OB. :smile

BTW, back then, at KSU---it was zilch! :lol
