Members John81 Posted April 18, 2012 Members Posted April 18, 2012 I've been diagnosed as having very high triglycerides and cholestorol. Medicine for that didn't help my heart problems and we were finally able to get me on an EKG while my heart was acting up. now we know I also have atrial fibrilation. I'm on medicine for that now too. The medicine seemed to help good for a few days but not so much now. I will have to increase the dosage of one pill. Still, I've not been feeling well. While my heart isn't running away and flopping like it was, it's still acting up and it's lasting for hours now and really makes me feel unwell. Prayers would be greatly appreciated. Quote

Members John81 Posted April 18, 2012 Author Members Posted April 18, 2012 Prayed and you're on my prayer list. Have you heard from your son? Yes, thank you for asking. After about three months of silence he sent a short message online and then called a few days later. He has a job working with a crew that cleans houses and apartments. Still lost with no apparent interest in the things of God and uninterested in attending church so his eternal soul is yet condemned. Quote

Members irishman Posted April 19, 2012 Members Posted April 19, 2012 Believe it or not Cheerio's helps too, and they are good! Cholesterol is important. It turns out that my cirrhosis (liver) is a result of fatty liver and high cholesterol. I am being put on the list for a liver transplant now. Quote
Administrators HappyChristian Posted April 19, 2012 Administrators Posted April 19, 2012 Exercise will increase good cholesterol, also. Other things to lower bad cholesterol would be blueberries (they are also real good for vein wall strength), pomegranates, avocado, chia seeds (high in omega 3, very good for the heart as well!), flax seed. They claim soy is also good, but be careful with that. Soy has a lot of estrogen in it...that's a female hormone that can cause, ahem, problems in men if too much is consumed (especially if they begin consuming a lot at a young age...). When the doctor told my mom she had high cholesterol, he put her on meds. She got real flushed all over, and her joints immediately began to ache. The doctor was shocked that it affected her that way, as it's not supposed to do that to people. She, to this day, has major joint problems due to the few days she took the meds. So be careful - watch your body's reactions closely when you take the medicine. Chia seeds (yes, those seeds that grow the grass on chia pets ), walnuts, avocado, flax seed are all high in omega-3's. Nuts are also high in omega 6's. Both fatty acids our hearts need, but most people get way too much omega 6, and not enough omega 3. Dr. Weil has an anti-inflammatory diet that balances the 3's and the 6's - and it is thought by many that heart problems (among other things) is due to an imbalance. Here's the link to his diet: http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/ART02012/anti-inflammatory-diet And a link to his explanation of 3's and 6's. http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/QAA400149/balancing-omega-3-and-omega-6.html irishman - I'm so glad you're on the transplant list! Members Covenanter Posted April 19, 2012 Members Posted April 19, 2012 Dear brothers, I pray that the LORD will have mercy on you in your weakness, & restore & strengthen you for his service. My total chol was 7.6 in 2000 - when I was diagnosed with diabetes - I immediately started using the chol-lowering margarines, & including oat bran with my cereal. It's dropped to just above 5. After a few years Dr prescribed siMVastatin. Muscle pains developed which I did not realise was a drug reaction until I read of that problem. A week after stopping the drug, the pains were gone. I had taken it for a few months, & chol dropped to about 4 - but I was not prepared to take a potentially crippling drug. He later tried me on niacin for chol (1 g daily) but I felt muscle pains soon, & my blood sugars went up. I now find a low carbohydrate diet keeps me in good health, free from pain, with acceptable levels of chol & near-normal blood glucose readings. I am convinced that a high carb diet - more than 100g daily is a cause of health problems. Hope that helps. HappyChristian 1 Quote
Members JerryNumbers Posted April 19, 2012 Members Posted April 19, 2012 Cheerio's are not near as good for lowering cholesterol as the makers of Cheerio's lead us to believe. The makers of Cheerio's has been forced to admit many claims they have made is unfounded. I like honey nut Cheerio's! Cheerios: Food or Drug? In May 2009, the FDA confronted General Mills regarding the company's claim that Cheerios Toasted Whole Grain Oat Cereal can lower cholesterol 4 percent in six weeks. The agency determined that the health claims made by General Mills promoted the cereal as a drug to treat, alleviate and prevent a disease -- specifically, high cholesterol. The FDA demanded that General Mills correct the unauthorized health claims on the Cheerios label. I can state that during a 12 moth period, while takings Red Rice Yeast, my bad cholesterol dropped several point. Mine was quite a bit above the acceptable level, & it dropped down into the acceptable level. Now, was the red rice yeast the thing that caused this, I do know, but it was the only thing I did differently. Doctors have told me when one has diabetes, the benefit of exercise is almost immediately. But for blood pressure & or help with lowering cholesterol, it take long tern exercise to get any benefit. It seems its hard to develop a good habit of exercising properly for me! :peek: Quote

Thank you LuAnne! I've been putting chopped walnuts and some blueberries in my oatmeal. I bought some flaxseed today to try as well. My excercise had dropped down to very little over the past several months because I wasn't feeling right. I guess now I know why. With the meds I'm feeling better for at least part of the day and I've started doing more walking and started lifting a few weights again, light lifting for now. HappyChristian 1 Quote
