Constitutionally, American citizens are not to be treated like criminals, not to be treated as if they are guilty. An American citizens privacy should be fully protected and they should be fully free from searches and seizures without probable cause and/or a warrant.

The Patriot Act and much of what's been put into motion along with all this violates the Constitution. It doesn't matter whether one has anything to hide or not. The most pristine America citizen with not the slightest thing in the world to hide should not be subject to invasion of his privacy or searches.

It wasn't that long back when most Americans would have never stood for such treatment. Of course today we have so many raised during the build-up of socialism in America that they see no problem with police state activities and tactics.

Okay, trc - I understand. And I'm in agreement with you, I think.

John - you mentioned there were other things that could have been done...could you be specific?

Our borders could have been secured and kept secured. Troops could have been placed upon the borders to prevent the illegal invasion of America by those attempting to enter America illegally.

Immigration from countries known to harbor terrorists could have been ended. Student and workers visas could have been ended to countries breeding terrorists. Illegals, specifically Muslim illegals, could have been rounded up and deported.

Those fitting the terrorist profiles could have been targetted for closer scrutiny in airports and such.

All of this could have been accomplished and carried on without creating a huge federal Department of Homeland Security. This could have been accomplished with a Patriot Act. There was no need to put American citizens through all they have been and continue to be put through.

This isn't comprehensive or anything, but it's a basis.

You are right it "could have been" done; but it wasn't. In the vacuum of such being done under the former structure, they created a new structure and it is getting done.

None of that is getting done. We have a huge new federal department but it's not doing any of those things. Our borders are still porous, millions of illegals pouring across, we still accept students and workers from terrorist filled countries, rather than directing scrutiny at those with the highest probability of being a potential terrorist, American citizens are searched and run through a gauntlet as if they are criminals.

The "former structure" could have done all that was needed to be done either before or after 9-11. The reason such wasn't done was because neither Clinton nor Bush wanted such done.

Instead of dealing with the problem as previous generations would have done, Bush chose to further the police state.

You know, its great that we have the right to protest peacefully, but I chose not to. Way to many times a protest will turn into a riot and you never know when it will. So the best thing is to stay out of it.

Like you say, newspapers blames the soldiers, the blame actually lays in the hand of those who started the protest, and all blood was and is on their hands.

I feel sure both this soldiers and policemen would rather have been some where else.

During the days of Vietnam, most of the media was on the side of the protests and those who did wrong. We have not recovered from those days, we've just went down hill extremely fast since them.

Isn't that the truth!!!!

John - yes, I agree that our borders should have been tightened. And I'm really apprehensive with BO's choices for positions that would determine any tightening - Neapolitano is horrible. This wasn't done by the feds, so civilians are doing it. The Border Patrol does the best they can with what they are given.
