"You will only be bothered by what you allow to bother you."

Would you agree with this statement? In which situations/ways would this not be true? I realized recently that some of my favorite people on earth that I would love to be more like are the type of people who are not easily "ruffled". Is it that they are just naturally calm people, or is it that they just refuse to let things ruffle them for the most part? (or maybe a little of both?)

I think it's probably a bit of both. Some people are more naturally easy-going and others have developed the ability to just let things go without letting it bother them. I tend to be an easy-going person, personally.

Guess you really can't know unless you are close to them...whether they have a spirit controlled temperment or if they are just naturally easy going.

This goes back to spiritual gifts, Katie. As for the church...everyone is "equipped" with different personalities. God makes us that way.

I Corinthians 12:1...Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. "One Body: Unity and Diversity" KJV 1611 AV.

I Corinthians Chapter 12 is awesome!

They go hand in hand, Kevin. "Personality differences" and "Spiritual Gifts" are the same. Did you go through what I wrote? It took time for me to write all of that. I saved (teaching) for last...just for you. :smile

Also, please read I Corinthians Chapter 12. If we all knew what are "spiritual gifts" were...we would have more harmony. All of us have 7 of them. You would be surprised that all 7 are dispersed equally within each of us.

I know that many cessationists promote such interpretations and I found it fascinating myself for a long time. But I must look at everything through Scripture and I just don't see any of that stuff supported in Corinthians or any other part of the Bible.

Kevin...read the scriptures. It is in the Bible. It is as "plain as day."

Not really, I can't control myself when it comes to these things. I do appreciate people with a calm spirit, I'm just not one of those.

Everybody is bothered by different things. For Christians it's important to remember we are to cast ALL our cares and burdens upon the Lord and allow Him to deal with them.

If we truly submit to the Spirit then we can have victory over such matters.

Where some things would have bothered me 25 years ago or where I would have been impatient with many things back then, today it's not like that. It's because of the Spirit, not because of anything I've been able to do.

There are some professsing Christians who proclaim, "I've just got a quick temper" or "I've got a short fuse", that's just me. Well, perhaps that's true, but that doesn't have to be who they are if they turn it over to the Lord; if they are willing for Christ to place that under His heel and allow the new man in Christ to take its place.

Some never learn to control their self, especially their temper.

I often wonder, did their parents just let them go and do their thing, and never taught them rightly to behave and control their self?

But too, sometimes its not the parents fault, seems there are people who are and always have been a lose canon and never have been controllable.

But I think we all can learn to control our self, if we will make the effort thru Christ.
