Have fun. But, eww. Mushrooms? I like to use cream of mushroom soup in some of my recipes (especially gravy), but I can't just eat mushrooms. My hubby loves 'em, though.

If you were in France, you could take your collection to the local pharmacist to identify poison from edible. Their government tried to move the pharmacies into the supermarkets, but identifying wild mushrooms is not part of the service.

I found enough to half fill a 10 inch aluminum collendar in my yard last week. I spent 3 and a half hours walking around the edge of the woods in the country and came back with nothing to show except...
a picture of a terrapin, a garter snake, wild flowers and...scared 4 deer from their resting places.

I have another place I will go tomorrow to hunt them.

You folks do know the difference between a morel and any other mushroom...right? Follow the links in the OP and you'll see they are unmistakable.

My grampa used to do that and then we'd fry up the ones he came back with in butter...oh YUM....

I am not a mushroom lover, but my wife likes to have them every day. Not wild ones though.

Yes Covenanter, the French pharmacies will identify mushrooms for you, they will also have a chart showing edible ones.

You can get mushroom growing kits in various varieties, white, chestnut, various oyster mushrooms. Aren't they the ones that grow on trees? we may have some of those.

Yes, but...dip them in egg, sprinkle on flour, then fry them in butter in a hot frying pan...yummy!
I won't need any more cholesterol for a whole year.

I went out into my yard a while ago and began looking for more...I found them! Not enough for a big dinner but just enough to satisfy.

I will have to add a picture of them later.

3.5 hrs. in the woods and fields vs. 30 min. in my own yard. Talk about needing to redeem the time. Edited by 1Tim115

Love those! Clean 'em, half 'em, dip 'em in a beat up egg, roll 'em in crushed crackers, fry 'em, eat 'em! :hungry:

I use egg and flour...might need to try the crushed crackers next time.

Some folks are turned away when they see the result of soaking them :)
