Hello;

My real name is Cliff Weber. I was born in the community of Linda Vista San Diego in January of the year the allies landed at Normandy; but I and my wife of 30+ years have been residing in the Portland Metro area of Oregon since 1985. We have one son who graduated from University of Oregon in 2005 with a degree in Journalism and now resides on his own in San Francisco.

Back in 1966 I migrated to Oregon a young single guy in a 1961 Volkswagen in search of work and resided here two years before moving back to San Diego in 1968 to care for my father who was slowly dying of cancer. It was here in the Portland of 1968 where I underwent a second birth as per Jesus' instructions at John 3:3-8.

After 40 years as a professional welder in various shops and shipyards, I retired from Federal civil service with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Portland District in 2006. I am currently 66 years old; and though I am an independent, fundamental Baptist; my denomination of choice for church purposes is Conservative Baptist.

I'm a tad handicapped. In 1997 I got Grave's Disease which caused nerve damage in my legs and they subsequently lost about 50 percent of their strength. On top of that; my right knee has a fair amount of arthritis which prevents me from bending it far enough to squat. I look really comical getting up off the floor. Because of the nerve damage and the arthritis; I have to do it sort of butt first like a little toddler because I cannot rise from a deep knee bend.

My wife and I had no say in our choice of religion. Our parents imposed their own belief system on us as kids. Subsequently, we were baptized as infants into the Roman Catholic Church; forced to attend catechism, and went on to complete First Holy Communion and Confirmation. Because of my parents financial situation, and prOBlems associated with transportation, I did only one year in parochial high school. My spouse went to parochial schools for twelve years. I have an older brother (whom I have neither seen nor heard from since 1961) who entered the priesthood, and my wife's older sister was a nun for a few years.

I was loyal to Rome and its teachings up until I was a little over 24 years old; and then with the help of a Baptist minister in 1968; the Holy Bible opened my eyes to some reality checks; and one of those checks is that Rome does not always agree with the Holy Bible; nor does it always agree with the Christ of the New Testament.

I was faced with a grim decision: do I stifle my own better judgment, marginalize the Bible and the Christ of the New Testament, and follow Rome without question; or do I yield to my own better judgment and marginalize Rome in favor of following the Bible and the Christ of the New Testament? I chose to marginalize Rome. That was over 42 years ago as of the date of this introduction, and in all that time I have not had one single pang of conscience nor feelings of regret for my decision. In point of fact, the more I studied the Bible, and the more I studied the testimony of the New Testament's Christ; the more disillusioned I became with Rome.

In 1971 I discovered a radio preacher named J.Vernon McGee. Perhaps someone reading my introduction is familiar with his program Thru The Bible Radio. TTB has been my primary influence for going on 39 years; but not my sole influence. There have been many lectures, sermons, seminars, books, Sunday school classes, and other radio programs along the way too; so though I've not been to seminary; I'm pretty well grounded in accordance with Eph 4:7-14.

Some of my more notable influences, besides J.Vernon McGee, have been C.I.Scofield, Walter Martin, Werner Keller, Michael L.Brown, Henry M.Morris, J.Dwight Pentecost, Randall Price, Henry A.Ironside, Ted Epp, and Lester Rolloff, et al. I really should give credit to Dr.James DOBson for the assistance his books provided in helping to rectify the damage my dysfunctional family caused me as a growing boy.

But all that influence would of course have been a ping had not the anointing of 1John 2:26-27 been onboard to sort it all out for me and make it click.

BTW: I was just recently banned from another Baptist forum because I dared to ask someone if they possessed the anointing of 1John 2:26-27. Why was I banned? Because the forum's administrators construed me guilty of breaking their rule forbidding questioning someone's salvation. Mind you, that was a "Baptist" forum where you'd expect they might be inclined to honor Jesus' last wishes on a world-wide venue.

†. Mtt 28:19-20 . . Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations . . .teaching them to OBserve all things whatsoever I have commanded you.

Some world-wide Christian forums just don't realize what a golden opportunity to serve the Lord that they're letting slip through their fingers just so we can all get along.

†. Gal 1:10 . . Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.

I have participated on a number of forums in the past 13 years; and never for chat and gossip. My motivation has always been the great commission of Mtt 28:19-20. Subsequently some people find me a bit preachy and get insulted; but that's just pride, conceit, and arrogance talking; which is no surprise on world-wide venues; even Christian venues.

†. Prv 9:7-9 . .Whoever corrects a mocker invites insult; whoever rebukes a wicked man incurs abuse. Don't try to correct a mocker or he will hate you; correct a wise man and he will love you. Yes; instruct a wise man and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man and he will add to his learning.

ps. I never really know how other people's computers display fonts so if my choice is grossly too big or too small, let me know.

Howdy, it's good to have you with us! :th_tiphat:

I've been kicked off other "Baptist" forums as well, for quoting the Bible! :icon_rolleyes:

I was actually about to give up on forums when I found this one and decided to give it one more try. This has been my online "home" for several years now.

Praise God for the Baptist minister who brought you the truth. A friend and I helped bring many Catholics to Christ back in university. Like you, they were totally unaware the RCC didn't follow the Bible and were amazed to learn what the Bible really said.

Howdy and welcome aboard. One thing you can know about OB is that we love the Bible here! As you will see, even discussions that don't start with the Bible have the Bible applied. Sometimes things get a bit warm, but that can be good, too, since as iron sharpens iron, so do friends who face each other with the truth.

Proud Military Mom; hello;

Thanks to you and to everyone for the welcomes.

Since you're a moderator, maybe you can help me with something. My avatar posts okay here in the Welcome area, but it's invisible in the Sermon area. Did I miss a step somewhere along the line when I created my Sermon account?

Actually, that would be a question that BroMatt could answer - he's the geek (with all due respect to our mighty administrator :saint2: ). :icon_mrgreen: You can post a question in the support forum.

Howdy, I too am an ex-catholic, who went to catechism, and even went regularly to confession, and did m "penance" faithfully. The greatest day og my life was when Jesus saved me from that traditionalism and hypocrisy. I remember when the mess, er, I mean Mass, was done in Latin, so I am an old timer myself!

Welcome to the online Baptist, (with emphasis on the Baptist, the closest thing I know to the New Testament church of the Bible days) I hope yo find good fellowship, and a host of friends here.

I even know you from posting way back on a Yahoo Baptist Board. I posted under Jerry80871852 them as I do now.

Inkeeper, Inky, or what ever his name was, the resident RCC authority, drove me nuts. Also Pilgrim came over here for a short time, but its been a long time since he posted. Good to see you see you around here.

If you remember me, OK, if you don't, that's OK too.

Welcome C.L.I. F.F.

Jerry, hello;

That was a really long time ago. A lot of water has gone under the bridge since then. I do remember you but can't remember what we talked about; but if memory serves me; I think we had a pretty good rapport going. Back in the old days, I used to sign my name with a pair of glasses like this:

(chuckle) That would be inkaneer. Haven't seen him online for quite a while.

I'm still active on some of Yahoo's boards but to tell the truth, they're basically pretty dull and Yahoo's forum software is really a dinosaur compared to many of the other forums I've been on. There's just no excuse for a dot com business with Yahoo's pile of money not to upgrade to a forum software like what they use here.

Yes, I remember you use to sign your name with a pair of glasses, that is quite hard to forget, soon as I saw your post I looked for the glasses. I found this board back in 05 and left the old yahoo boards behind me. I did go back a time or 2 and looked around for the old gang, yet I like this so much better and did my posting over here.

No doubt, much water has run under the bridge since 05, many things have changed, yet that old story we love to hear and tell about is still the same never changing.
