Do you have an ability to recognize expertly some craft, workmanship, or one of the arts (paintings, sculpture, music, writings, etc.)? Thinking about it now it seems like something way beyond my capability. I do not have this knowledge or ability. I would like to think I can recognize KJV scripture to know if something sounds correct but, I can be fooled If you do have this ability... What particular art or craft is your expertise? Was it learned or did it come to you naturally? If learned did you have to practice it relentlessly or did it come easily?

I hate that the "Jehovah's Witnesses" are called that. They are not Jehovah's witnesses. The saved are! Some call them, "Jehovah's False Witnesses." I don't think that is right either. He has no false witnesses. I call them, "False Jehovah's Witnesses."

Professor : You are a Christian, aren’t you, son ? Student : Yes, sir. Professor: So, you believe in GOD ? Student : Absolutely, sir. Professor : Is GOD good ? Student : Sure. Professor: Is GOD all powerful ? Student : Yes. Professor: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to GOD to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But GOD didn’t. How is this GOD good then? Hmm? (Student was silent.) Professor: You can’t answer, can you ? Let’s start again, young fella. Is GOD good? Student : Yes. Professor: Is satan good ? Student : No. Professor: Where does satan come from ? Student : From … GOD … Professor: That’s r…

Since joining the IFB church I'm trying to clean out my library of christian authors that don't line up with IFB teachings. Like Billy Graham. I'd like to read some books by women that are IFB but don't know where to start. Do I pitch books by Joyce Meyers? Pat Robertson? Sheila Walsh?

Holy Spirit - Shhhh!

There are times when I sense a strong presence of the Holy Spirit. During personal worship, corporate worship, Bible study, private prayer, witnessing, fellowship times (before/after services and here at OB too). There are other times when I'm just taking in the wonder of God's creation and recall scripture and know the Spirit is there with me; I just have to say thank you Lord. I know we have the testimony of the Holy Spirit in concert between us many times. We Baptists don't share acknowledging the Holy Spirit's presence among and with each other as much as we maybe should. I know I'm guilty of not saying I feel the presence of the Holy Spirit during gatherings when I…

WHAT'S MISSING FROM THIS EASTER MESSAGE? April 5, 2012 NewsWithViews.com By Lee Duigon The Episcopal Church has sent me a copy of the annual Easter Message from Presiding Bishop Katherine Jefferts Schori. It’s 383 words long, in eight paragraphs. Not once in this message has the Presiding Bishop seen fit to mention the name of Jesus Christ. Oh, she drops hints that Easter maybe sort of, kind of, have something to do with Jesus. In the next-to-last paragraph she says, “I would encourage you to look at where you are finding new life and resurrection, where life abundant and love incarnate are springing up in your lives and the lives of your communities.” It …

Man Knocked Out, Stripped Naked And Robbed Of Everything As Crowd Of Onlookers Laugh Hysterically source: http://endoftheamericandream.com/ How would you feel if a group of young thugs punched you in the face, knocked you to the ground, stripped you naked and took off with your car keys, your watch, your money and your cell phone? Well, that is exactly what happened to one man in Baltimore recently and it was all caught on camera. Perhaps the most frightening thing about this incident is that nobody from the crowd of onlookers helped this man. Instead, most of them appear to have been too busy laughing hysterically at what was happening to him. Sadly, this kind of b…

Art Linkletter hosted a popular TV program interviewing children way back in the 50s called "People Are Funny". Anyone remember Art? How about Sky King? What was the name of that plane? Look over this list and see if you recognize any you watched during there first run (not as re-runs...sorry children).

[TBC: Here is a valid critique from a conservative (not Christian) publication. The evangelical writer offers a pertinent analysis and rebuke of decades of evangelical activism and social gospel marketing.] EVANGELICALS' COLLAPSING CULTURAL INFLUENCE [Excerpts] On a day when many evangelicals are perhaps flexing their political muscles in the aftermath of their decisive votes in Alabama and Mississippi, it's worth pondering whether evangelicals' actual cultural (rather than political) influence is waxing or waning. I came across insightful and disturbing discussions by Yuval Levin and Ross Douthat. Surveying the devastating decline in marriage and other critical social…

A young man who was saved while attending our church, became a chef in a local restaurant. He was part of a very disfunctional family, and eventually moved to Scotland with is mother and sister. Eventually his sister moved back to live with their father. "L" was concerned about his sister and prayed about whether he should return. he then listened to a message sermon audio which said you should not just wait for God to act, but if you believe it is His Will you should act, He came down to visit his sister and went to see his old patron, who immediately offered him his old job back as his head chef had just resigned. He went back to Scotland and gave notice to his em…

If we were to ask the first hundred people we meet on the street this question.... What is Easter? ....wonder what the responses would be? If we were to ask the same question of a hundred people, chosen at random, from church congregations, wonder what the responses would be?

DEMOCRATS RESPONSIBLE FOR BLACK CULTURE OF ANGER April 7, 2012 NewsWithViews.com By Lloyd Marcus Black twenty-year-old male Danielle Simpson with two black associates were interrupted by 84 year old Geraldine Davidson while in the process of burglarizing her home. They duct taped her mouth, bound her hands and legs and threw the white former school teacher and church organist into the trunk of her own car. Ms Davidson was severely brutalized before the trio eventually tied a rope attached to a cinder block around her legs and threw her, still alive, into the river. Brutal crimes are not unique. show off his victim to his black friends. Due to fingerprints …

This is rather long, but is another way to look at our personal and national problems. You know, I think it is a shame that so many secular writers can once and a while commend some biblical principle without recognizing or noting that it is. This is copied from Azizonomics.com: Bread & Circuses & Antiprosperity If I was a mathematical economist — and I have very, very good reason not to be — I would try to create a formal model for what I call antiprosperity. What is antiprosperity? It is a strange effect. I hypothesise thus: as nations (and to a lesser extent, people) become more prosperous, they tend toward greater fragility. In other words, fat tim…

I just returned from our Good Friday service. The alter had been stripped of all of it ornamentation, leaving only the cross, draped in a black cloth. The priests wore black, as they read meditations on the suffering and death of our Lord Jesus. Music was toned down, every thing was slow, to symbolize the death like march that Jesus took to the place called the Skull. We were encouraged to remember his death from the perspective of the disciples...they were left confused, afraid, grieving and in despar. The same situation we all find ourselves in. Thus, we left the service in silence. Feeling a bit of despair. Feeling hopeless. Oh what a celebration it will be …

Revelations is a book in the Bible - so it's a Christian concept, right? --- The idea of a war between the forces of good and evil, ending with an apocalyptic battle led by a messiah, first appeared in Zoroastrianism, founded in the sixth century BCE, several decades before Buddha was born. It entered Judaism some time between the second century BCE and the second century CE. Subsequently, it made its way into early Christianity and Manichaeism, and later into Islam. (I see so many posts along these lines, all seeking to diminish Scripture, to ridicule Christ, to tarnish Christianity. Worse is the number of people who "like" these sort of posts and often add their …

How the Moon Affects the Date of Easter By Joe Rao , SPACE.com Skywatching Columnist Space.com | SPACE.com – 2 hrs 0 mins ago View Photo Click image for more photos (Photo: REUTERS/Ricardo Moraes) Email Share31 Print Friday (April 6) brings us the first full moon of the new spring season. The official moment that the moon turns full is 19:19 UT, or 3:19 p.m. EDT. Traditionally, the April full moon is known as "the Pink Moon," supposedly as a tribute to the grass pink or wild ground phlox, considered one of the earliest widespread flowers of the spring. Other monikers include the Full Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon and, among coastal Native American tribe…

Jewish State Has No Relationship to Bible In a special interview with Die Tagespost, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Fouad Twal, named by Pope Benedict to represent the Vatican in the Jewish State, declared that “Israel’s existence as such has nothing to do with the Bible.” He then compared Christians’ condition in today’s Jerusalem with Jesus’ Passion. “We Christians never forget that even our Lord himself suffered and was mocked in Jerusalem.” ‘We Christians cannot speak about the Promised Land for the Jewish people,’ the synod’s document said. ‘There is no longer a chosen people. The concept of the promised land cannot be used as a base for the justification of the re…

The USPS Tightens Its Belt… Again The current recession has forced all Americans to cut their expenses, and the U.S. Postal Service is no exception. The following report from today’s Washington Postoutlines the latest plans by the Postal Service to reduce costs and increase revenues: Fiscal Crisis at the USPS The ongoing recession has left the United States Postal Service facing a projected $12 billion budget shortfall this year, with no indication that the agency will see an end to the red ink for at least another five years. Last week, after Congress turned down its latest request to raise the cost of a first-class stamp to $1.73, the Postal Service rushed to dev…

Is it really a dumb question? I used to have to have one when I was working. I have one now...let's see where is that thing...oh yea, I left it in my truck two days ago. I now have what I call a "grocery store" phone. You can pick them up in a grocery store while waiting to check out. You buy minutes on an extra card. I've had my grocery store phone for about 4 years now. It's a Motorola Razor and for such an "old" phone it has extra bells and whistles (texting, internet access, probably other stuff I'm not aware of). I have to laugh when I see folks tethered to their cell like their life depends on it. They can't even enjoy the simple freedom of having no one call…

JESUS The name of our beloved Savior serves as an outline for my brief message in an acrostic. J Justified freely. Someone has said that “justified” means “Just as if I’d never sinned”. It focuses on our sins but, but particularly on guilt. Justification is a legal term that pardons us from the legality; the punishment; and the penalty of sin. We need not feel guilty about our sin any longer, but confident that the Lord has removed us from it, and it from us, and declared us free from sin and guilt. E Eternally secure. Never having to worry about the reproaches of sin again; no “double jeopardy” in the court of our Lord. We are not called to account any longer “The…

He is once more blending those roles as he promotes “his” latest book, his own study Bible. The NIV Lessons from Life Bible: Personal Reflections with Jimmy Carter contains the full text of the New International Version of the Bible and the former president’s prayers, reflections, and asides. During his book tour to promote a study of the Scriptures, Carter men…

Is it "adult entertainment" or is it pornography? Is it "gay" or is it sodomy/homosexuality? Is it "pro choice" or is it pro baby murder, or at least pro abortion? Is it "luck" or blessing from God? Is there such a thing as "neutral" when it comes to matters of right and wrong, or is it as Jesus said, those who are not with us are against us? Is it "not the best thing", "bad", "not really good", "a little sin", or is it SIN? Why does it seem Christians adopt the nice sounding terms designed to cover their wickedness and sin rather than calling things what they are? Why, when a Christian speaks biblical truth and they come under fire for it do they most ofte…
