Question on Types of Music

I am here in this forum to learn more about what Baptists believe because I am interested in serious Christianity. I hope my asking this won't offend anyone as I am not challenging what anyone here believes - I am just trying to understand it to see if I agree with it for myself. What types of music are accepted and prohibited from a Baptist point of view? Is it just music that has bad language, or is it also non-Christian music that doesn't have bad language and Christian music too? What are the reasons? Thank you.

Down East is a great Christian quartet group who sing for God's glory locally here in N.C. I know the Lord has used this group to reach lost sinners to the Lord Jesus Christ.

If you appreciate songs of the Gospel, then you should really check out Clint Brown. He has a new album coming out February 5, 2008 called ?Fall Like Rain? and already a couple of the songs speak volumes on is talent, especially the song ?I Will?. If you want to listen to him follow this link here http://fontana.edgeboss.net/wmedia/font ... biwill.wax and let me know what you think! Brian Fontana

My wife majored in piano at Bob Jones University, so I got to love classical music there along with sacred Christian music. I love the hymns by Fanny Crosby and John Wesley which glorified God! Music should exalt Jesus Christ! I also like the music performed in the show Faith for the Family which used to air on Saturday night in Greenville, S.C. :bonK:

Have faith in God 1) Have faith in God when your pathway is lonely, He sees and knows all the way you have trod; Never alone are the least of His children; Have faith in God, Have faith in God. Chorus: Have faith in God, He's on the throne; Have faith in God, He watcheth o'er His own; He cannot fail, He must prevail; Have faith in God, Have faith in God. 2) Have faith in God when your prayers are unanswered, Your earnest plea he will never forget; Wait on the Lord, trust His Word and be patient; Have faith in God he will answer yet. Chorus 3) Have faith in God in your pain and your sorrow,His heart is touched with your grief and despair; Cast all your cares and …

Before I was saved, I listened to rock music, after I got saved I listened to "Christian rock music"/CCM, later I gave that all up. Right now, I do not listen to anything at home--just sing in church or sing a hymn to myself at home. I do like music, but am uncertain just where to draw the line. I went and read the bigger threads you have on CCM. I understand that rock, country, rap, and the like are not the type of music we should be listening to, but what about the finer details of music? Obviously, you can take a hymn and play it in a style that is NOT right. I do not have a musical background and I do not read music--how does one discern say, without just going …

I just read this song and got encouraged I hope it can encourage someone else.. Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come, Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home, When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He: His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me; His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me. Refrain I sing because I?m happy, I sing because I?m free, For His eye is on the sparrow, And I know He watches me. ?Let not your heart be troubled,? His tender word I hear, And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears; Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see; His eye is on…

Ephesians 3:19 says, "Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord." I love the hymns like Amazing Grace, Blessed Assurance, and A Mighty Fortress is our God. Psalms are hymns of praise found in the book of Psalms. I went to school at Bob Jones University, and we listened to good Christian music. We had vespers which are like afternoon worship services where we would listen to Christian music and recitals of Scripture. I enjoyed the music department of Dr. Dwight Gustafson and Dr. Frank Garlock. :Green :Green :Green :Green

Great article about the meaning of our Christmas songs on http://www.jackhammr.org/ It is disappointing to me to hear Christians say that they get tired of hearing the same old Christmas songs over and over again on their radio presets in the car. What that tells me is that they are listening to secular stations that only play "Winter Wonderland", "Silver Bells" and "Rudolph". If you are blessed to have a good Christian radio station in your area, you shouldn't get tired of hearing the beautiful Christmas music! We have so much MORE to sing about!!

This song is amazing! I heard it and listened to its words, it is just simply amazing! Here are the words to this song read them carefully. A mighty fortress is our God, A bulwark never failing; Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing. For still our ancient foe doth seem to work us woe; his craft and power Are great, and, armed with cruel hate, On earth is not his equal. Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing Were not the right Man on our side, the Man of God's own choosing. Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus it is He!; Lord Sabaoth is His name, from age to age the same, and He must win the battle. And though this …

When I sing hymns I really listen to and acknowledge the words and what they are saying like all week I have been singing Id rather have Jesus I just think hymns tell it all and so does the music you listen to it shows what kind of person you are inside and out what do other people think about this? I am going to add the words to my new favorite hymn 1. I?d rather have Jesus than silver or gold; I?d rather be His than have riches untold; I?d rather have Jesus than houses or lands; I?d rather be led by His nail-pierced hand * Refrain: Than to be the king of a vast domain, Or be held in sin?s dread sway; …

Dancing 1 2

This was something that I was thinking about today. I came across some videos on youtube of Christians doing "body worship," which is named correctly since it is usually focused on the worship and glorification of the body and most often accompanied by rock music. However, the Bible does say, "praise him with the timbrel and dance." There aren't many verses on dance in Scripture and extremely few in the New Testament, half of which are found in the girl dancing before Herod. It does seem, though, that God approves of dancing to glorify Him. Obviously, most dances that claim to worship Him today are just a part of the secularization of Christianity. So, my question is, …

Does anyone know what sort of law(s) there are or aren't concerning churches (or individuals, for that matter) photo-copying music and spreading it around? I've just been wondering.
