Your spouse (or potential spouse) just asked you to run to the store for a soda. You take the 2 year old with you. As you pull up to the convenience store, one you know well and is less then a mile from your house, the front parking spot is open. You pull right up to the door. Because of the windows, you can actually see the soda you want, which means that you will be able to see your vehicle at all times while in the store. You estimate that if you run in, you could go, get the soda, pay, and be back in the car in, about a minute and a half.

Its cold. And snowing. You have automatic locks on your keychain.

Do you:

1. Leave the kid in the car and run in?
2. Get the kid out and take them with?

My mom used to send the oldest child (9 years old or older) to get the stuff she want, or have the oldest child to look after the youngest with the door locked.

But I always bring my son in no matter what.

I seen some people leave their kids in the car while putting away the shopping cart in the parking lot. or don't put away the shopping cart because they have kids in the car. I don't do that. After I put the groceries in the car, I don't ask the kids (sometime I have my son's cousins with me) to get in the car, I ask them to follow me. If they can follow you to the store, then they can follow you to put the shopping cart away.

If you're gonna drag your two year old out in the cold & snow, at least give them the joy of going into the store with you. Buy them a candy bar while you're at it.

Better yet, send your spouse if he/she wants a soda that bad and you can avoid having to post such a lame question on the OB. (J/K) :wink

(Hey, why won't the hiding under chair emoticon work here?)

Actually, I don't think it is a bad question at all because a lot women run out to the store to get something for their husband, They definitely don't want to get snappy at their husband and say "get it yourself".

and husbands do not want to watch out for the kids either. So there is one option left, take the kid with you.

Ouch!!!

Actually, I normally go get things for my wife, and I know that she has been home with the baby all day, so I try to give her a break while spending a few minutes of alone time with my daughter. Sometimes, however, like the example listed, or to run in to pickup chinesse, or whatever, I will leave her in the car, locked, where I can see her. I never thought of it as even remotely wrong/dumb/lazy/etc. I feel for you folks with 3 or 4 kids. We have friends who have 3 all in car seats. I can't imagine taking all three kids out of the car seats, into the chinese place for the 30 seconds it takes to pickup your food (ask for chopsticks) and carry the food, kids, etc. all back just to load them all back in their seats.

Hence the question. I am sorta surprised more people don't. Kudos to Kitagrl for saying she would ;-)

Wow thanks. For one I loathe the idea that we are such a scardy-pants nation that we would call on someone. I think that is ridiculous.

I suppose the old quote "I would rather attend to the problems of too much freedom then not enough" comes to mind. The country America is becoming really bothers me sometimes.

We are not the same as we used to be. It used to be that everyone can leave their door unlock, but now you have to keep it lock. It is just not a safe generation especially with all those sex trafficking going on. It's the way of life.

I did see a mother leave her children in the car for more than 15 minutes. I didn't report to the police but I did stay there til she got back. If she have been gone more than a hour. I would have report her.
