Members Pastorj Posted June 5, 2007 Members Posted June 5, 2007 Please be in prayer for Dr. Earl Jessup who took a serious fall from a ladder about 5 hours ago in West Virginia. This morning he was cleaning the evestroughs for his aunt, when the ladder slipped and he fell 12 feet to a concrete driveway. He has a broken back, broken collar bone, bleeding at the front of the brain, a gash on his head that required 12 staples to close and a minor puncture of a lung. As you can imagine this is a serious situation. He is being transferred from the hospital in Beckley, to Charleston, where they are better prepared to care for the bleeding on the brain issue. Thank you for your prayers. Central Baptist Church Southington, CT 860-621-6701 Quote
Members dadof4 Posted June 5, 2007 Members Posted June 5, 2007 Wow, I did not know this before! Dr. Jessup has been part of our church for a while. I grew up with his kids, and one of his daughters is a teacher in our school here. Will be praying for him. Quote

Members dadof4 Posted June 6, 2007 Members Posted June 6, 2007 INITIAL REPORT: Monday, June 4, 2007, 5:29 p.m. On 6/4/07 Dr. Jessup was cleaning gutters at his aunt's house and fell off of a 12-foot ladder onto concrete. Mrs. Jessup reports that he has been transported from Beckley, WV to Charleston General Hospital and is currently in ICU. They have discovered that he has a broken collar bone, a broken back, a minor lung puncture, a severe gash on his head and, most seriously, bleeding on his brain. This was the reason for them transporting him to Charleston as they are more able to attend to this condition. Please pray for Dr. Jessup as Mrs. Jessup says he is in a lot of pain right now. As you can imagine the family is also pretty shaken up by this accident. We will publish updates as we are able on the website. Thank you for your prayers. UPDATE: Tuesday, June 5, 2007, 9:09 a.m. Dr. Jessup's condition is stable, but he is still in ICU probably for another day. With bleeding on the brain, they never know what can happen. So he's being monitored closely and not allowed to eat anything in case they have to do emergency surgery. He also has a partially collapsed lung which is hindering him from taking deep breaths. The doctors are concerned with the break in his back and will have to wait and see what will have to be done with that. A pastor friend went up and visited him and reported that he is alert and "strong as a hoss", and doing just fine considering the circumstances. Many have expressed their concern for Dr. Jessup and have said that they are praying for a complete recovery. We are too and are trusting the Lord to help him at this time. UPDATE: Tuesday, June 5, 2007, 2:40 p.m. The doctor has decided to put a back brace on Dr. Jessup for twelve weeks and see if this will allow the back to heal on its own. They are still monitoring the bleeding in the head as he is on an aspirin regiment for his heart. It seems to have not gotten any worse. They are moving him into a private room in the hospital so they can make a back brace for him. Quote

She said Rachel was having a hard time. Pray for her as well. Quote
Members dadof4 Posted June 10, 2007 Members Posted June 10, 2007 UPDATE: Wednesday, June 6, 2007, 1:00 p.m. We have been informed that they have moved Dr. Jessup out of the ICU into the step-down unit, which is the trauma unit. They have put a brace on his back and he cannot get up and walk without it right now. They are still monitoring the bleeding on the brain to be sure that nothing else happens with that, but they believe that is not going to be a problem. He will likely remain in the hospital in his own room for several more days and then he will move back to Beckley to stay with his mother until he is well enough to travel. It is unclear how much mobility he will have at this point and how much traveling he will be able to do. They will know more when he leaves the hospital. He is still on a good deal of pain medication as he is, as you can imagine, in a lot of pain. Mrs. Jessup asks for prayer for healing as well as patience in seeing all of this cleared up as soon as possible. Thanks for your prayers and we will continue to keep you informed as we find out more information. UPDATE: Thursday, June 7, 2007, 3:56 p.m. Praise the Lord, the bleeding on the brain seems to have stopped. Dr. Jessup has been out of bed, with a full body brace, moving with a walker. He is very dizzy and his equilibrium is off, so he will not be released until he gets this under control. The pain is very intense, yet, so he is on morphine and pain patches. This needs to improve, as well, before he is dismissed. Please continue praying and we will continue to update you! UPDATE: Friday, June 8, 2007, 7:15 p.m. We are pleased to announce that Dr. Jessup has been dismissed from the hospital and is now at his parents' home in West Virginia. He does still have a lot of pain, and there is some dizziness when he gets up. He is certainly in the midst of the healing process. Please continue to pray for Dr. Jessup. Cards and letters may be directed to the following: Dr. Jessup, 801 Teel Road, Beckley, WV 25801. Thank you for your prayers. Quote
