Hi it was suggested to me to show some of my paintings. I would like to see everyone everyones art or crafts. I wish I had a digital camera then I could show some doily's I have done. I will have to see if I can figure out how to attach them from photobucket not sure which code I use. I am going to first try the img, I am wanting to learn more trompe l'oeil and one stroke. I do like oils the most, its been about 5 years since I have done an oil, I have only done a few. they are all on here but one, I think. If this works I will find my cd with the upstairs bathroom paintings and show them, I did a cactus, a fern, potted plant and a window looking out to palm trees and mountians on the walls.

My downstairs bathroom door, donna dewberry onestroke method, folkart paints acrylic

I had 1.5 hours left in a class and had this calendar picture so I did one similair, I dont know if it was a sunset or if they used a filter in the photo? wolf, oil painting.

Wow! God has given you some real talent!

thankyou, I just wish I had more confidence, because I only did the oils in a class I was taking and could always scream for help if I got to a point where I was unsure how to create a certian look I have not had the confidence to try it at home. The acrylics drive me bonkers that they dry so fast, it may just take practice to get used to them plus If I were to use real artist acrylic rather then the folk art paints perhaps it would be less frustrating , I want to try water colour. I like that you can blend the oils and for skys plop down the paints then take a big brush and slowly blend them and if you need more of a colour you can just put it down.

My hat is off to the painting, I could never do that.

I make things, the first, this knife I made with a Russel blade, Patch Knife, this little feller hangs in a sheath that is part of the shoulder strap to my possibles bag. This handle is Rawhide, glued and riveted, I have shaved with this one.

Second , also a Russel, Green Valley, the handle is made from the stem of a very large rose bush, I saved the wood for years, it is linseed oiled and sharp enough to shave with.
The style is a Skean Dhu, patterned after a plain Scottish fighting knife worn in the sock.

I also do leather..... :bible: covers, etc. in fact my avi is one,,,, I made.....

The knives look well made, do you also make things out of wood such as lamps or other furniture? I watched a show once, Debbie Travis, where she took bamboo and made a lamp from it.

with painting most of the people in her class never painted in their lives and the first step was to do a monochromatic painting, using one colour and adding white or black to it. I tired to follow some of the popular instructors that seem to do assembly line paintings and threw the book across the room, I think his name was Ross. It is very hard to do something the way someone else does , maybe if I had the same brushes as he and palette knife but still. I found doing peoples faces I would just pretend I was applying makeup and it seemed to work. I still needed help and would not have done it on my own. she told me to add a bit of colour from my sisters clothing onto the baby blanket and from the blanket onto my sisters top. and showed me which brush to use for the trees and so on. its been so long I dont know if I would remember. Many people either draw on paper or blow up the picture then trace it on paper then transfer it to canvas so they have the correct dimensions then start painting. I had to do that with my uncles face because its so atypical of a persons face I was making his nose too straight. the big unicorn I did a grid pattern. the original was very small so I put a plastic sheet over it then on a large piece of paper I put the same number of boxes but bigger. I think the painting is 16 by 20. at times even with masters drawings at the museum you will see grid patterns underneath that seem at first to be part of the drawing. Because I have only done a few paintings I think that if I can do that then anyone who is good with crafts has an eye for design and they too can paint with a good instructor. you would be surprised how many seniors take up painting, having never done it and after a year are making nice paintings.
I think having taken art in highschool, did a drawing in the park night class with U of T, did an intro to theatre where I did makeup for a mainstage play, plus a year in graphic design(could not stand it, like illustration much better) that they all helped me with working with colour even if it was computer, pastels or makeup. I think skills you use elsewhere are transferable to other crafts and this was why I could do well in the classes right away. I think people who build things would have good perspective skills to use in drawing. so I am sure you could paint like that.

this is a half done doily, I will have to get my friend to bring her digital camera here one day so I can get a picture of it done.

doilywheatside.jpg

I took wrapping paper and used podgy to glue it to an ugly table. I also stone painted the legs. I had used a doily I made to make the piece of pottery in a class and a candy dish for the pointy one and the other was hand built.
scannedphotosatchantells015.jpg

this one I did the same to the table. I used a leaf to make the leaf dish, the heart was hand cut then an imprint from a box to make the celtic cross. the celtic cross I did not make at all I bought it at a place with all kinds of stone stuff to put on the outside of your house. the vase was with a bottle and jewerly of an eagle and other animals was pressed into the clay.

Anyone else with quilts, crafts, knitting, Art, carpentry etc????

Cool thread! I love your paintings! My mom painted really nice stuff when she was still alive and my sister can paint some too. My mom's parents were both art school grads and did alot of "just for fun" painting. Your doilies are nice too...I enjoyed doing those myself before I got too busy doing other things. I prefer thread crochet to yarn crochet.

I like the knives! I knew a guy who used deer antlers for handles and then made the knives from that, and leather holsters. Really cool stuff.

You can check my cake website, I guess that is my "art" although it doesn't stick around for too long! But having the photos helps. (The sewing website is not mine, its that of a friend's...but the cake website is mine).
