Has anyone had some home made ice cream yet this year? We have, boy is it good.

What is you favorite flavor?

Mine is banana. Boy howdy! That's good...well, so is fresh strawberry. :Bleh

Nothing beats homemade Ice Cream in my book! YUMMY!

However there is one company in the whole wide world that comes mighty close - it is The Western Dairy at Spanish Lookout in Cayo District in Belize! It is owned and operated by a Mennonite Community with Jersey cows - their Ice Cream is made from 100% natural products that they make themselves - no hormones, chemicals, etc. Their Ice Cream Products are sold throughout their country and outshines any American Ice Cream Dairy product ever put in a freezer case. Their cheeses and butter are superb, too!

Nothing beats homemade ice cream in my book either -- but when I can't get that (and I usually can't), I'll quite gladly settle for Dreyer's (a.k.a. Edy's to you folks on the East Coast :wink ) Slow Churned. Yum!!

That being the case then you would throroughly enjoy Maplehof's dairy products. They are a Mennonite family that still makes their ice cream as well as their other products the old fashioned way::::: No prservatives, no weird chemicals of any kind and only the very best and richest milk, cream and other ingredients. As their name inplies they are Pennsylvania-German and so much so that they don't even speak good English. English is their second language. :thumb

How far away are they from Florida!?! I'll tell you what - it is almost worth the plane ticket to go to Spanish Lookout - their ice cream is THAT good! :thumb :icecream :icecream :icecream :icecream :icecream

There are several small Mennonite villages throughout Kentucky - I love their produce, baked goods and everything! YUMMY! YUMMY!

When I told Mr. Yoder in Belize that I was from Kentucky, he told me he has relatives in there in Calloway County - it's a small world after all!

Truly amazing..

Around here we have oooooooooooodles of mennonite and Amish-run road-side stands to get most of our fresh produce. For baked goods, my wife's is the verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry best. :thumb :clap::clap::clap::clap:

I realize it is not as classy as some of the one's ya'll have mentioned, but Kroger (a grocery store common in the South,) had a Fudge Mocca something or other once and my wife and I bought it every time we went to the store for a while then they discontinued it...alas, all good things (Earthly) must come to and end.

My cinnamon rolls and donuts do not hold a candle to the Mennonite Bakery - people would be lined up for a mile down the lane on Donut Day!

I know that you would be a very fine cook and baker but there is just something about the way those Mennonites do their confections. I have no ideeer what it is, and my wife won't tell (she has that Mennonite heritage). She just says it is all in the "kitchen-technique" (whatever that is. ).

Southern Lancaster County (home of Maplehof Dairy) is about 1,000 miles or so from Florida. :smile

Most of these brands I have never heard of before. the only turkey hill I know of is the maple syrup products made here in ontairo. I used to like Hagen Das but it is made with real cream so its very fattening. I think one serving gives you your fat quota for 3 days.

It doesn't taste or act like real ice cream. It's way too anemic for my tastes. It tastes like it has more water in it than anything else. It claims to be all-natural and I'm sure it is, as water is very natural.

No offense KM, it's probably because I'm "Lancaster, PA" spoiled. The high-end locals we have here are top drawer and even Edy's, Ben 'n' Jerry's, Haagen-Das, and all the rest of those other ultra-rich brands cannot compare to our own local brands.:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:
