On another thread a sister said she thought DL's were a good thing because she didn't want drunks out there driving. Look around sister - they are still out there - they just have to pay more to keep driving! All the license does is give up our rights! Show me where the Constitution says the State can mandate our mode of travel much less say it is a privilege!

I have to disagree. :smile And when the Constitution was written, cars were not even invented. Cars are potentially dangerous machines and not just anybody should be on the road with them. Without licensing, children could climb into cars and kill themselves or others. I believe driving is a privilege, not a right. You can travel many other ways, such as public transportation, bikes, walking, etc. You do not have to drive. If you want the PRIVILEGE to drive, get a license.

For years there were no need for drivers licenses. In rural areas, kids can drive farm equipment, including pick-up trucks, without a license.

I know of a man who lost his DL for something so he sold his car and bought a tractor. No need for a license to drive them on the road. Another man could no longer get a DL so he bought a big riding lawn mower and drove that around.

The more laws that are passed, the less parents, children and people in general take responsibility for themselves, their families and others.

If DL's were about public safety then they would be done just like a pilot's license - required training for all, monthly/annual qualifications to carry passengers, and annual health screenings. But the DL's are there for two things - money and control.

Edited to add - just like vehicle registration - the car can be an acident waiting to happen as long as you pay each year you are ok to drive it!

All licenses are about money, the government, local, county, state, and federal is very greedy and need much money.

I remember when they changed truck drives to the CDL's.

In the our states newspaper, the writer said, once they get everyone licensee with a CDL all the bad truck drivers will be off the road.

No matter what the government does, they will never get all he bad drivers off the road, whether it be car, motorcycle or trucks, the CDL's were about our government getting more money out of its citizens.

Our government has grow so large, it gobbling up way to much money, and rightly the main one who benefit from our government is big business, they are the only ones who can pay for what will make them more money, our politicians love money and most of them always have, as stated in another topic what Davy Crocket wrote many years ago.

Our government needs to be downsized. There are to many people working for the government, whether it be local county, state, or federal, its going to break everyone.

But I'm not going to worry about it, my treasures are in heaven, no one can take them away from me, they might help me get them sooner.

I kind of like SSD, without it, I suppose I would be on welfare like a truck driving friend of mine, he owned his own truck for most of his life, before he got 62 he got diabetes, had to stop working, it was getting his sight, could no longer drive, now he is on welfare.

He asked me, how can you get SSD, you worked for yourself? I told him, unlike you I paid in each and ever year, so I can get it because I am disabled.

Them he said, why would you pay the government that money, I wasn't going to give them any of my money? I told him, just in case something happened I would have just a small cushion and not be on welfare like you are.

Mitch, a bi-vocational pastor needs the back up of SS and SSD. Especially if he is a farmer, and a time comes when he can no longer do physical labor, for the pay I receive at this small country church is not very much, but I'm not complaining the least bit. I don't believe most of us bi-vocational pastor are in it for the money anyway.

MONTANA :thumb

Actually, if one were to put the same amount of money into investments that would otherwise go to social security, they would be able to have much more money when they need it.

Fox News did a report on several government workers who refuse social security and instead place that same amount of money into investments and they have something like 10 times the amount in their retirement than they would have had with social security.

I agree with much that you have said, but I do have to put this in:

Amendment 10: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.

The states do have that right...and if the people don't like it, we have the power to do something about it ~ vote 'em out and put in the ones who will uphold the Constitutions (plural, because each state has their own).

Happy - that is my point - the land belongs to the States - not Uncle Sam - but he took it anyway! (regarding BLM etc

Wayne

Edits to add: and the Constitution guareentees our right to travel!

BUT it does NOT guarantee our right to travel by car or plane! You can walk! You can use public transportation! Buy a horse and buggy!
