I do my primary study from the KJV and NASB. I also use to a lesser degree the ESV and Geneva. I have downloaded on my computer over 20 different translations/paraphrases, which I use for comparison. My main study Bibles are the Old Scofield (it has to be an OLD Scofield), KJ Study Bible, Key Word Study Bible and the MacArthur Study Bible (NASB). My most cherished Bible is the Old Scofield I bought as a sophomore at Tennessee Temple in 1977. It is now literally held together with glue and tape.

I use only the KJV of the Bible, I have no copy of the MV's.

Once at the Baptist Book Store I found a fancy NIV marked down from $75.00 to $10.00. I grabbed that thing up but when I was checking out I just could not bring myself to waste my money on something that had so many errors in it.

Why have a something that you can't trust?

I'm reading a book at the moment that uses Romans 8:28 to make the argument that God works in all things for good with those who love him. Just thought it might add to the discussion.

That is one passage I was thinking of too. God works through the situations that the wicked created in the life of believers - not necessarily working through the wicked or backslidden directly. If someone was sincerely searching for the truth, the Lord has promised to reveal Himself to them. All that a lost person might have handy is a Living Bible, the Passion movie, and a book by Rick Warren - God may make some single sentence or paragraph or scene stand out to the person and mixed with all other things He is doing in their life to convict them and reach them, that might be the clincher. Were they saved because of Rick Warren - no. Does it justify using using the Passion movie as an evangelistic tool? No, it is an example of God using all things for good in the life of that person (who will soon become a believer - I believe all things means even things in their life BEFORE they get saved - though He may not turn that situation around or use it for good until after they come to Him for salvation).

The man that led me to the Lord was ecumenical, pro-NIV, and actually did not present the whole Gospel (they just focussed on why Jesus died, not His resurrection, my guilt before the Lord, or much else); however, God used his partial picture to give me the piece of the puzzle I was missing and I trusted the Lord that night. I already knew I was a lost condemned sinner, I knew Jesus died and arose - though I didn't know why, and I didn't know there was a way to be saved from Hell. I had already repented of my sin - and attempted to clean up some areas of my life on my own. But without the rest of the picture, all I had was moral reformation - then that night I got salvation. Looking back, I can clearly see that that man had watered things down, compromised in various ways - but God turned it around and used it for good in spite of Him - because I was searching for the truth.

I love that verse, Romans 8:28, for it is a Bible truth.

I read of a pastor who was leaving Monday morning to have some test ran for he had been have much trouble, they were going to do some scans on his head.

That Sunday evening a few church member had come by his house to pray with him about this matter. When they were leaving he followed them to their cars, the last one who was leaving told him, I user hope you get some good news tomorrow, he replied, "Thank you, I'm praying that do to."

He had turned from them, their car started backing out of his driveways, he turned quickly towards them flagging them down. They pulled back up and he walked to the drivers window and said, "Please, what ever news we get tomorrow it will be good news, please tell the other who stopped by that I can only get good news, for the Bible says in Romans 8:28, "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."

A few months late this pastor died of brain cancer up to his death I understand by the life he lived that he firmly believed that Romans 8:28 was a truth from God to all of His children. The pastor was Dr. Curtis Hutson.

No doubt, Romans 8:28 is a Bible truth and what ever happens in our life we can know that because of our love for God He will work it out for our good.

I too would like to know what the inaccuracies are along with 282Mikado.

Yes, I'm sure. There are some issues, however, that are better left alone. I have learned to choose wisely on what to take a stand (and when and where to do it), and my opinions on this matter are not in that category. :smile
