E Bay or Craigslist?

I told the wife that I was going to E Bay a bunch of junk. She said that it was her understanding that E Bay is getting to expensive to list and sell goods.

Your vote and/or opinion is appreciated!

I sold my motorcycle and bought a car locally within a week and did both on Craigslist. It was very easy and fast and, best of all, free.

I like Craigslist because it is free and easy to use and has a wide user base. Some people are afraid of Craigslist because it isn't as "secure" as Ebay, but I haven't had a problem with that. I and people I know have had more issues with scammers when selling on Ebay. They will win an item and then never pay, but Ebay still gets their cut of the sell, which means that you are paying them for nothing and then you have to repost your sell item.

I have bought a lot off of Ebay and had good and bad experiences. Selling stuff on Ebay is not free and if the adds run out you have to repost them. On Craigslist the add doesn't expire as fast, but you can always repost it to move it back to the top of the list.

The thing about Ebay is that it has a MUCH larger user base and if you're selling a widget that is just like a thousand other widgets out there, you are relying on a good deal of chance that your item will even be looked at in the week it is posted.

Craigslist is also more locally oriented as well.

I would say give it a whirl on Craigslist first, since it is free, and then, what doesn't sell can go on Ebay. :2cents

Depends on the item. Craigslist is local and is good for large items like furniture and appliances. I use Ebay for smaller items that I can't get locally like homeschooling material for 1/2 of what I would pay the publisher.

I've as yet to use Craig's list. I am on Ebay as a buyer and a seller (Palatka44). I too have had good and bad experiences but overall it is a positive one.

I use craigslist to find freelance jibs, but I have to do it a city at a time. I wrote a script that allows me to pull up the correct link to about two dozen of the most populous cities.

I didn't vote because I say both....Craigslist for big local items and Ebay for smaller ones. You get more views on Ebay, but you pay for it too. I recently sold an antique dresser on Ebay, locally, that I probably couldn't have sold on Craigslist. However, I sold a treadmill quite quickly on Craigslist that I probably couldn't have sold well on Ebay. The more you work both sites the more you will kind of be able to sense what you should sell where.

The fact that some people win an item and then don't pay for it is not e-bay's fault, so why should you expect them to relist the item for free?

If you use e-bay, just do your research. My husband and I love selling on e-bay, all you have to do is research the item you are selling to see if it does well to see if it is even worth it.

Ahh ok. Our ebay experience has been pretty good, because we research something before we try to sell it.

I've bought/sold over 100 items on Ebay and only once ever had someone return an item....a baseball card they didn't think was worth what they paid. I've always been happy with the things I've purchased on there, tho. I make sure I don't buy from people with poor feedback ratings.

Lol I would have been inclined to tell him he would have known how much he thought it was worth before he bid on it and that he is the one that placed the bid so returning it was not an option.

I'm so upset, I had a bad experience with a seller, so stupidly left an honest neutral feedback. Of course she was happy to ruin my perfect feedback with a retalitory neg. *sigh* It sure wasn't worth the little trinket I bought, that's for sure, nor the month I waited to get it.
