That was an easy one. :smile

Neither her or her husband were actual Christians although he did have a speechwriter that infused a great deal of Christian references into his speeches for the sake of the overwhelmingly professing Christian population of the time.

Yes her biography was EXTREMELY interesting and revealing. I felt quite sorry for her, actually.

I know some kin of hers. I went to school with one and him and his family, his brother and wife, and his mother all attend the same church I do. That branch of the family has had some tragedies.

You should read the book, Fifty Years in the Church of Rome, by Charles Chiniquy. It describes in great detail President Lincoln's conversion after the Battle of Gettysburg when he viewed the graves of all of the young men and women who gave their lives there. He was not a saved man when he entered the White House, but before he was killed he was genuinely born-again.

From what I read of his wife she was not a happy woman.

It is truly no wonder that this wife descended into madness.

I have read that book, PE - and it is interesting, although I do not accept all of it. I have to say that a great majority of stuff that comes from Jack Chick is questionable. The president to whom we reference supposedly made several professions of faith, and they are all written about in different places (one preacher said that the man came to him late at night, leaving his footprints in the snow...etc.) I hope that he truly was saved, but I really have my doubts.

Charles and his accounts have been refuted over and over again. I've read his accounts though. I've read just about everything Jack Chick puts out.

Every source close to Lincoln, including his wife and those of his closest friends and associates, all agree that Lincoln was not a Christian and that he never converted.

After The War there were literally dozens of preachers and others who came forth proclaiming they had converted Lincoln or witnessed Lincoln's conversion. Naturally, all of these claims contradict one another.

In the end, only God knows for sure (and really, that's all that matters) but according to those who best knew Lincoln, he was not a Christian either before or after Gettysburg.

From the autobiography I read, I gathered that neither of them were very religious at all. Seems like Christian books all say he was a Christian, and secular books make no mention of religion. However I would think if religion was a part of his life, the secular books would have had to mention it.

Lincoln had a speechwriter who was a Christian. Because of this, and because Lincoln wanted to appeal to the masses who were mostly professing Christians, many of Lincolns speeches are infused with "Christian" wording or references to Scripture.

Sadly, the accounts given by those closest to Lincoln give no reason to believe he ever came to Christ. :sad

That's why the place is haunted...man no wonder we can't get anyone to make good decisions around here, the White House is full of demons! :eek
