She was 93. Her husband is 96 and still drives.
The world changed around them, and they forgot to change w/ it. Whenever you walked onto their little farm, you would swear you stepped back into the 40s. I would venture to say Papa only owned one tractor his entire life, and still uses it. The barn is red. The house is a little old farm house with squeaky floors. Most of the meat they ate was raised and butchered by Papa. I haven't been to their house in about 5 years, but I would venture to say that there is a garden growing. They had the same furniture they had most of their life. They kitchen was an antique in and of itself. She dressed like a sterotypical farmer's wife and I don't ever recall seeing Papa in anything but overalls. I remember to this day my "goody box". It was a simple empty cigar box that she kept filled with stuff for us grandkids/great grandkids/great great grandkids. It was filled with the most simple of things, but I remember being entertained by them many times. She would put empty spools of thread, whittled sticks, homemade paper dolls, etc. For reasons I won't get in to, I went a lot of my older years not being able to see them very much. I did get to see her when my 2nd child was 4 months old. I am so glad she got to meet 2 of my kids. She had 6 kids, about 18-20 grandkids, countless great grandkids, and at least 5 great great grandkids.

Just a little funny here.....
I got a kick out of her. She must have been about 85 at the time and I was back in town and went to see her. Papa had met me in the front and we went inside. Granny didn't know I had driven up. Anyway, this little ole woman came walking in the side door carrying a bucket. She got so excited to see me she forgot she had the bucket and ran (YES RAN) to give me a hug. About that time I gasped and jumped back a little when I saw what was inside the bucket. She giggled and replied "Oh darlin, never mind her, she is Sunday dinner!". It was a chicken who just got its neck wrung by granny. She was so non chalaunt about it and didn't think much about carrying around a dead chicken into the living room! LOL I remember thinking that it put a whole new meaning to "kicking the bucket"! LOL

anyway, thanks for letting me ramble. I don't think I can make it to the funeral. My husband is still deployed and I don't know what to do w/ my kids during it. THey are to little to take to a funeral. To say the least, I am a little sad :sad . However, in the same breathe, she did have a full, happy life to the very end!!

Grandma's are surely special, mine on my mothers side live with us, she spoiled me rotten in ways, but would correct me in an instant.

But them turn around and take up for me. Se had a wonderful lap to set on while listening to her many stories. Her kisses were even very good even thought she dipped snuff.

I have a greatgrandpa who is 96. I am really hoping we can celebrate his 100th!!
My family all tend to live a long time, but nobody has reached a 100 since my great great aunt. She died in 1980, just 2 days before I was born. She was 109 or something like that.

oKJac...it is very wonderful that you will always have those beautiful memories of your granny. :smile I had a "papa" too. So does my son. He would have 2 of them, had my dad lived past age 65. Well, my favorite aunt passed away on Saturday, June 28th. She was 87...heart failure. I pray that she is in Heaven. I do believe she is...as, she wanted to hear all about Jesus from me a year after I was saved. She accepted the Gospel...so, I hope to see her in Heaven with your granny. We have the funeral tomorrow...it is in the RCC church. I think it might just be a memorial and not a Mass. I am not sure, though. God bless you, and think good thoughts about your granny.
