Well Airborne is mostly vitamin C which is proven to HELP. Those studies are worthless sometimes, they have also done studies that say people with chronic urticaria (hives) don't react to preservatives in food...well my son does, and quite remarkably so.

Speaking of which please pray for him, we are having trouble finding and antibiotic that does not break him out. Today he is absolutely full of hives, top to bottom, itchy (and still on all his regular meds for chronic urticaria) and I called the dr requesting something and they totally must not have paid attention because they told us to take Benadryl (as if he didn't already have hives and is on much stronger meds for it) and tried to call in another antibiotic worse than the first one he took (a liquid full of preservatives that he cannot have.)

So please pray we can find a med that will not break him out but yet heal his ear infection and respiratory infection. This is getting frustrating...a 3 yo going around the house with snot, a bad cough, and now full body hives that he's walking around scratching. :badday: We've dealt with hives for a year now but it doesn't make it easier.

Praying for your son :pray I hate seeing little ones suffer :sad

The latest studies now say that vitamin C has little effect upon colds. One of the newer studies suggests that eating a large breakfast when sick will help you to recover faster.

Speaking from only my own personal experience, I used to take a lot of vitamin C until I found out that it could have contributed to my getting kidney stones. Since I stopped taking vitamin C I experienced no difference in the amount of colds I get nor how long they last.

As to the other study, if I'm really sick it would be hard for me to eat a large breakfast. It's hard enough most of the time for me to eat a regular breakfast even when I'm well! For some reason my stomach doesn't like to eat much first thing in the morning.

Honestly I think having a big breakfast makes less sense than vitamin C. Numerous studies have proven the effect of vitamin C, while eating breakfast is common sense and would be impossible to prove. Actually both would be hard to prove because you are assuming everybody's cold is going to last the same amount...whereas they don't. You can only see the outcome and assume its related or not related to what they took. We could probably do a study and find that people with brown hair get less colds than people with blonde, if we got the right focus group!

All of these studies on food, medicine and health are ongoing. All too often they release results as conclusive way before they know enough. This is why you have situations like studies showing eggs are evil, followed by billions of dollars spent telling everyone the evils of eggs, only to be discovered later by newer studies that eggs are actually very good for you...followed by billions of dollars telling everyone about this!

Even during the years when some studies claimed vitamin C was a health wonder, there were studies that showed otherwise. For whatever reason, the pro-C got all the press. Now, larger studies over a longer period of time are showing that C isn't the health wonder that it's been claimed to be. So I guess it's up to us to decide which reports to believe.

Vitamin C works better for colds and other problems if it is already in the body when the virus or bacteria hits. It doesn't help everyone, but it is a major source of healing from within, and is very good for the skin. The best thing about it is if a person takes "too much," it is washed out of the body instead of stored in the liver, like most other vitamins are.

Airborne also has ecinicea, which is very good for the immune system. But there isn't much in there. We keep the liquid ecinicea on hand for cases like colds, etc. We use airborne (walborn, acutally) but we supplement it with other things.

Kitagirl is right, it depends on who is doing the study. And sometimes I wonder abou those whom they study. I know the stuff works from personal experience with myself and my family members and lots of other people.

My mom uses something called Defense. At the first sign of anything like a cold, she has my grandma start taking it (if anyone gets it...she doesn't want my grandma to get sick. She's almost 99 and it could kill her!) and she and my dad and nephew do, too. They aren't sick very often. I used it at the beginning of a cold when I was up there, and it knocked it right out.

I am so sorry your son has to go through this, Kita!!!! Poor guy - and poor mom to have to see him suffer. Praying....

Thanks!

I also want to say, cautiously, that I know "natural" people who are sick ALL the time. I think alot of it is individual immune systems...which is why again, studies probably aren't all that accurate.

It depends on who is doing the study' date=' and why.[/quote']

That's right, the person who is interested in getting money out of you, he is very prejudice about what he tells you. For he does not want to tell you something that will keep you from buying what he has to sell.

John is right on.

People will stoop to all sorts of lies to get your money, including promising something that is not true. The sellers of those health aids are among the worse there is.

I read in a Centers for Science in the Public Interest publication that Airborne is completely inefffective. It said all the Airborne's claims, when tested, were proven to be false.

Yes, they just spend more money to get over it in the same amount of time.

Like a friend who Kenneth Copeland prayed over to be healed from the flu, he said it really worked, in about 2 weeks he was over the flu.

As for me, I will leave such stuff up to my Lord, I take nothing until I'm sick, I'm not going to stuff junk down my throat ever day except for food the Lord furnishes me to keep me going where I can serve my Lord.

Oh, I agree here!! That's why we go by what's proven to us through others and ourselves.

Yeah here too, Andrew is now, b/c of the hives, sensitive to many preservatives and such things that are not generally accepted in the medical world...but we KNOW because of all the trial and error we've done with him. Very much proven. But most medical providers just smile and nod like "Well that's interesting, whatever keeps you happy." Its not keeping us happy, its controlling these hives!

No doubt, some doctors don't understand that some people are allergic to certain things.

Seems learning this comes with experience and trials. Seems mothers are pretty good at figuring this out about their children.

Seems the older I get, the more medicines I am becoming allergic to. But them it may be because I have to take more.

Thankfully I was never allergic to any foods that I know of. Except for about a 5 to 9 year time period I was allergic to milk, anything containing much milk products, such as pizza, would tear my stomach up. It took me quite a while to figure out what was causing it. But for some reason after I had my 1st neck surgery in 1999, it stopped bothering me.

Now nearly every night I will drink a big glass of milk before bed time. I love it.

I love milk, too, but if I drank it every night I wouldn't be able to breathe the next morning. I use some on my cereal if that's what I have for breakfast, and use some in cooking, but rarely drink a full glass 'cause it causes a lot of breathing difficulties. Raw milk probably wouldn't, but as I stated in that thread, I don't like the taste of that!

You may want to try Organic, ultra-pasteurized, non-homogenized milk. It's about as close to raw milk as you can get from the store and it doesn't have that raw milk taste. I think it tastes better than any other milk on the shelf personally. Also, make sure the "ultra-pasteurized" just means low temperature pasteurization. There are cases when it doesn't necessarily mean that.

Can't taste better than a glass of sweet milk.

I just had an ice cream cone with Blue Bell Coffee ice cream. It was good! :thumb
