Members DaveW
I ahve never been very good at touch typing - I normally look at the keys while I type and it ends up that I amke plenty of spelling maistakes that I only notice when I look up at the screen, and I then ahve to go back and fix them - so my speed is not great. When [people aks how fast I type I normally say "That depends - so you want it right or do you want it fast?" (That should have been "do you want it right"). The really funny thing is, when I touch type properly, I rarely make mistakes, and when I do, I notice them immediately and correct them without looking down. So, why don't I simply trust myself, instead of looking down at my keyboard? I don't know..... lack of faith in myself I guess. Please don't do that - It bugs me and I know it causes great grief for Brother Markle as well. Administrators Jim_Alaska Posted June 9, 2017 Administrators Share Posted June 9, 2017 I am the same way Dave, always have been. I just can't seem to get the hang of touch typing. I always watch the keyboard and then, just like you, don't see mistakes until I proof read the text. I can type really fast this way, but am thankful for spell check to pick up my mistakes. I find that most mistakes I make are because my fingers get ahead of my slow brain. The mistakes I make are fairly constant in nature, the same ones time and again. Two that come to me as I write this are simple words like: ahve and cna instead of "have" and "can." Oh well, I guess it's the "old dogs and new tricks" syndrome. Members DaveW
Yeah it is words like those you mention that regularly catch me out. And then I often post from my phone and thise tiny little keyboards combined with my fat fingers (and occasionally autocorrect) means that I often end up with what I have called "Phone spelling". Many of my posts have an edit note with "Phone Spelling" on it....... No Nicolaitans
