Members WellWithMySoul Posted June 18, 2015 Members Posted June 18, 2015 AlanThank you for your kind words and gratefulness. I thank YOU for your service to our country. It's greatly appreciated! I do need to clarify that my husband was a Nam ERA Vet, but he didn't serve in Nam. However, my husband's brother did serve there, and was awarded a Silver Star. I also have a brother-in-law who served there, and suffers from Agent Orange. We have 3 sons that have served (2 of them still active duty), and also our daughter...so I wanted to clarify that our daughter is a disabled Marine vet (she did not serve in combat however, praise God!). Our daughter's husband was the one that was shot while escorting some of the enemy to a detention area in the Middle East. He is also a disabled veteran. My husband and I have endured through 8 deployments between our sons...and feel so very, very blessed that they made it home from each one; perhaps not unscathed, but none-the-less still safely back in country. I used to keep yellow ribbons tied around two of our front trees, door posts, and gate....while the boys were deployed. Indeed, Hebrews 11:16 is a wonderful verse reminding us that we're bound for another "country"...Heaven is our HOME!! Again...thank you so very much for your service!

Members ThePilgrim Posted June 18, 2015 Members Posted June 18, 2015 The music is beautiful and moving however there are a large number of people including me who might not agree with the the War of Northern Aggression is depicted. So I offer this depiction to bring balance: heartstrings and HappyChristian 2

Members Alan Posted October 8, 2015 Author Members Posted October 8, 2015 I just finished reading the book by Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th. President of the United States, called, "The Rough Riders.” When President Roosevelt was a Colonel in the Spanish - American War in 1898 one of the first battles (a series of skirmishes), was called, "The Battle of Las Guasimas." After the battle, the wounded men were left at a improvised open-air hospital in very primitive conditions with only one doctor to take care of the many wounded. The wounded men were part of the, "Rough Riders," and were used to hard field conditions and were very patriotic. Roosevelt describes what happened that night in the hospital. "A very touching incident happened in the improvised open-air hospital after the fight, where the wounded were lying. They did not groan, and made no complaint, trying to help one another. One of them suddenly began to hum, "My Country 'tis of Thee," and one by one the others joined in the chorus, which swelled out through the tropic woods, where the victors lay in camp beside their dead. I did not see any sign among the fighting men, whether wounded or unwounded, of the very complicated emotions assigned to their kind by some of the realistic modern novelists who have written about battles."[1]These men were good soldiers who fought a good fight without complaint. It reminded me of Philippians 2:14 “Do all things without murmurings and disputings.” “My Country ‘tis of Thee.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0ywDLpfBHg Alan [1] Roosevelt, Theodore. Members Alan Posted January 19, 2017 Author Members Posted January 19, 2017 Eswarden, I appreciate your effort in finding, reading, and 'liking' two of the above posts. You really touched my heart. Brethren, I also appreciate the others in times past that enjoyed the article, or commented on, this article on Patriotism. My thoughts have not changed a whit. I would have willingly given my life for my country during the Vietnam War. I also am thankful for those brave men, and women, who served, for those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, and all of those freedom lovin' folks that will defend America from her enemies. America, is spite of all of our problems, is still the bulwark for freedom loving countries in the world, a leader of democratic principles, a lover of missions and other Christian works, and a staunch defender of the nation of Israel. God is not through with America. I love America. Alan No Nicolaitans and John Young 2

Vietnam was the first war America lost. During the 1980s my father and I watched, "Vietnam, the Ten Thousand Day War" series and later War Stories with Oliver North on Fox News. Granted, they are not news stories because the newsies are almost all commies or fellow travelers and useful idiots. Despite President Johnson's murderous actions, our troops did win the war and we trained up the South Vietnamese to fight and defeat the communists. We lost when Congress cut the purse strings of support and without money and war materials, the South fell. Sound familiar? Joe Biden was complicit in this act of treachery, sending millions to an early grave and enslaving tens of millions more under the iron curtain. Democrats do this with nearly all the wars America fights. WW2, China/Taiwan, Vietnam, Haiti, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. etc. etc. The left has changed tactics again. Today our troops are all elevated to phony hero status, especially the wounded ones and are all made into victims. The word hero has been changed to be nearly meaningless like the t-ballers all getting trophies for showing up to play, like John Kerry. Nonsense! George Washington was a hero! Alvin York was a hero! Audie Murphy was a hero! Lance Sijan was a hero! Decades of God being banished from the classroom and the rampant social engineering since 1993 have completely changed our military from what it once was. I no longer recognize it. Communism used to be a bad word and a bad thing. In the early 20th century Communists were beaten, jailed and deported, for their ideology is subversive to and incompatible with our Constitution. Apparently we as a nation didn't learn that lesson from the War of Northern Aggression when the North and conquered South were turned into progressive utopias of government tyranny. No, the Greatest Generation was elected communists and their sympathizers to the highest offices in the land as did their Baby Boomers and each generation since. Curiously, Donald Trump's mentor was none other than the anti-communist and commie hunter Roy Cohn. Will Trump relegate these American commies, fellow travelers and useful idiots to the dustbin of history? Ok, rant over, couple more posts to read and then work to do! 1Timothy115 and Alan 1 1
Members Alan Posted January 19, 2017 Author Members Posted January 19, 2017 Air Force Captain Lance Sijan was a true hero, a patriot, and a dedicated U.S.A.F. officer who gave his life for his country in the Vietnam War. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lance_Sijan I have read the book, "Into the Mouth of the Cat," written by Malcolm McConnell. It is an inspiring book and gives more detail then the Wikipedia article. 2 hours ago, swathdiver said: Curiously, Donald Trump's mentor was none other than the anti-communist and commie hunter Roy Cohn. Members swathdiver Posted January 20, 2017 Members Posted January 20, 2017 I read that book about Captain Sijan as a young man and have never forgotten it. By now it's been read at least 3 times. True Patriotism! Nathan Hale and Sam Davis also come to mind. Alan 1
Members Saved41199 Posted January 22, 2017 Members Posted January 22, 2017 I am the granddaughter, daughter, daughter in law, sister in law, wife and mother of veterans. (WW1, WW2, Japanese Occupation Forces, Korea, Cuban Missile Crisis, VietNam, Desert Storm/Shield, Iraq/Iran) HOWEVER, I see too much of the need to 'export' American style democracy around the world to places that didn't ask for it, don't want it, and our young people pay the price. My son, who did two tours in Iraq explained it simply...he said "mom, we have no business being over there. Their tribal wars have been going on for hundreds of years and they're just going to keep on going. They don't want nor understand our form of government and wish we'd leave them alone." The last "just" war, in my mind was WW2. A war that had to be fought to stop a greater evil. Vietnam, there was no exit strategy and was kept going so the war profiteers would continue to make money off it. Iraq/Iran, same sort of thing. Our fighting forces were not given the equipment they needed and people died because of it. My beautiful son is now 100% disabled, has PTSD, and mentally ill. He has a traumatic brain injury that has totally changed him from the bright, loving, funny young man he was into someone who is dark, hateful, reclusive and so far away. He is 29 years old. If someone wants to call me unpatriotic, then so be it. I've seen too much carnage from those who fought and died so others could fatten their wallets. I long for the day when the swords will be beaten into plowshares and man shall learn war no more. ..., wretched, swathdiver and 1 other 3 1
Members Alan Posted January 22, 2017 Author Members Posted January 22, 2017 Saved41199, Thank you for your comments, testimony, insight, and patriotism. All of us long for the day when, "And he shall judge among many nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn was any more." Isaiah 2:4 May we pray more earnestly for that day to come soon. Alan Saved41199 and wretched 2
Members Saved41199 Posted January 22, 2017 Members Posted January 22, 2017 Thank you Brother Alan... I've often been accused of being "unpatriotic" because I do not support war. I fail to see how not supporting one equates to not supporting the other. I'm a child of immigrants I appreciate everything the US has meant to my family, the opportunities we have all been afforded. However, I cry at the lives that have been so brutally torn apart. I know far too many...and my heart cries out to God begging him to stop this foolishness. I worked in the defense industry for many years (naval shipbuilding) and saw literally hundreds of fresh faced young men...young men that I knew would return older, harder, damaged. Maybe I'm just way too cynical....and thank you so much for the full quote from Isaiah...I couldn't remember it all. Alan and wretched 2
