Prayer-Though Not Sure For What.

Had an odd incident this morning.

I was out to pick up a few folks for service this morning-my regular pick-up guy is out.

We have in the church an elderly mother and her adult son-the son is not quite right: he was born a tad behind, as a young adult indulged in drugs and alcohol, then later had a bad car accident and got some brain damage on top of it. So, he has some...limitations.

Well, he gets on thes tangents, where something is on his mind, and he will ask the same basic quiestion each week-I don't know if he forgets, or just doesn't accpet the answers because its not what he is looking for.   Well, lately, its been about confession of sin-some guy told him that the Bible teached that we are to confess our sins before the congregation. Well, I assume all of us here know that's not correct-we confess our faults before one another, ie, confess to the one we have wronged, and we confess our sins before the Lord alone. Each week, for the past few months he has repeated this, and I tell him the same thing-I remain patient because I know his limitations.

So, last Thursday we had a missionary come in, and he had, on his van, a verse about confessing Christ before others, so this fellow picks up about confessing, and when the missionary took questions about his ministry, our man asks him about confessing sins. well, bless God the missionary and I were on the same page, he gave an excellent answer, and once it was complete, I raised my hand and asked another question, to move it on, because if you give him the time, he will go on and on.  When service ended, I and the fellow in my church spoke, he explained why he had asked, and I said that was fine and hoped he understood. All was well, and they left.

SOOO...this morning, when I wnt to pick him and his mother up, he accosted me at the door, voice on volume 11, and accused me of telling him to 'SHUT UP", in service. I asked him, did I say exactly that, in case he might have thought my asking the next question caused him to think I was trying to shut him up, but no, he said I told him, in front of everyone to shut up-exactly that, he yelled at me for a couple moments, (mind you he's a big fellow, and I half expected to go to church with a black eye, but no). then when I tried to ask some questions, he just said, "good-bye Mike" and shut the door.

So, we need some prayer, but not sure for what. In some ways I think having him gne m8ght be good for the church, but on the other hand, he's damaged and its not really his fault-I don't even know where he got the idea I had done this, but his mind seems to create strange things. And I hate leaving him out in the cold, so to speak, but, how do you convnce someone that he didn't hear what he truly believes he heard?  So, prayer, I'd appreciate. His mom really needs to go lve with her daughter, as this son really can't care for her anymore and especially since he seems to be getting more unstable.

Thanks for your patience and your prayers.

:icon_pray:  People hear what they want to hear sometimes also. Recently in my Sunday School class girl was playing games on her Ipad during SS. I told her to put it away, she said she had tried to download the Bible on it but it didn't work. So I told her since it didn't have Bible on it there was no reason for her to bring it to SS and that we have print Bibles she can use and have. Pastor called me few days later wanting to know if I had told girl she wasn't allowed to bring Ipad to church anymore! I explained to him what had happened and he talked to parent again. She was playing games on it in SS and all the kids were watching games instead of listening to me.

Discernment of spirits.  I've encountered many possessed.

They always cause prOBlems in the church... if you let them get away with it.

How about exorcism? Or, how about just confronting the demon and demanding to know its/their name/names?

Brother Mike I was in accident in 2000 in which I was hit by a semi my spin and hip where crush and I had a brain injury , I was in a wheel chair for two years unable to walk and had a great loss in memory and secures caused by the brain injury, I spent 8 weeks at a brain center with others whom had the same prOBlems as I was having some far much sever. while I was there I begin to pray for these people and It wasn't long that I was sharing the gospel with many of them but found it very hard when I would have to explain it maybe 10 or times to some of them and some never understood it at all but I would continue to pray for them no matter how bad it may have seemed there was always Hope in the Lord .I made friends with a young man that had been in a motorcycle accident he was full of anger and bitterness because he new he would never be able to do for himself again without the help of others , I prayed daily for this young man to trust in the lord Jesus as his savior but the more I prayed the harder he got. I was about to give up but the day I was going home he came to me and ask if I would help him, I ask how I could help and he said he needed Jesus but didn't know how to call on him ' there was a couch in the lOBby and we knelt down there and he trust the Lord Jesus as his savior and afterwards he told of a peace in his heart that he could now accept his condition.

It can be very hard dealing with someone that has this type of condition, I know , I was told that would never walk again and would have memory prOBlems and secures the rest of my life '' but because of my loving savior JESUS today I can walk and no longer have secures '' and live a normal life. " Praising Him Daily "

Brother Mike one thing this young man may be having prOBlems with is that most people including family don't understand someone that has a brain injury some even act as though you're crazy or weird, and this can have a impact on his life to often do things to get attention . maybe talking and if possible praying with his family could help.

I've lifted this up to the Lord and will continue to pray for you and this young man

God Bless Pastor

This was my thought as I read Mike's post, as well.

Except the name part, which I see no instruction to do....

And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.  Mark 5:9

And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him. Luke 8:30

You can directly address a demon to cast it out.

Thanks, all, for the support and prayers.

This fellow, (not a young man, a little older than myself), has been a combination of encouragement and irritation. When first there, he would get angry and storm out anytime someone mentiond a doctor or asked for prayer for someone with a surgery, because he hates doctors. I suspect he blames them for his condition, to some extent.  We got him past that and he no longer does it.

Other times, I am impressed at how he can 'get' some things better than others. Once, when he was upset at my wife and I, I asked him why he stayed at the church, and he said, No matter how I feel personally, you teach the truth, and the truth is what I want."  How often do we wish more 'normal' people could understand and accept such a concept.   Often, he can only seem to receive a single item in a service, but he will act on it, and it usually sticks. Once, he understood the usefulness of tracts, and now I can hardly keep them stocked because he gives so many out-he often buys his own. And he is fearless, and will give them to anyone.   He used to wear his hair long, and then he 'got it' that a man should have short hair, so he went and cut it, and has kept it short ever since.

But clearly, he still has issues. I believe he is saved, but his condition keeps him rather immature, but he also laments over sin, and seems to really have conviction about it. But then, something like this comes up and now I'm not sure where its going to go. It may be for the best for the church as a whole, because I suspect there are those who won't come because of him, having a bad rep in the town due to his past and personality. (funny. many of those same people would prOBably think it terrible and elitist if we refused to allow some in, yet won't come if we do.) But in the past, we have lost people who caused some sort of trouble or seemed to have a negative spirit about them, and when they left, we would experience some growth.

MountainChristian, things have been slow of late-most people, I think, connect loss of a building with loss of the church, and I think, despite how the word goes out, many just don't even think we are around anymore. I have thought at times about just closing the doors, and enjoying being preached to for a while, but the Lord never promised me numbers or prosperity and a building or even people-He told me to go, so I went and until He makes it clear otherwise, I will continue on. At least it isn't a big expense being in a rented hall, at about $50 per month.
