Too bad we are in different necks of the woods. My hubby loves to golf but only gets to go once a year (some rare years he gets to go twice).

My hubby loves to golf too HC.  I think it is in his blood.  ;)  He used to belong to a league but it was to time consuming.  He gets out when he can.

Are they wasting precious time. Should they be winning lost souls instead. How much golf is to much golf?    :coffee2:

Pastors need some free time too. It's good to see them getting some exercise. Too many obese pastors.

Our pastor doesn't play golf. He's far too busy for anything like that. Our pastors are in the church six days a week, prepare their own sermons and Sunday school lessons, have duties regarding youth groups and AWANA, also prepare and lead Bible studies along with special events. Then there are weddings, funerals, visiting those in hospitals (and elsewhere), appointments for counsel (pastoral, not psych), etc. (etc. can include anything from doing tech work to taking out the trash, from general maintenance to dealing with supplies)

This is good to hear but some men need recreational time.

If you don't "come apart" you will come apart.

Our pastor, in his late 50s, started getting a bit of a paunch so he bought an eliptical and it went away. He also modified his eating some.

Our pastor has one day a week off and three or four weeks of vacation time each year which he takes as he wishes; either a day or two here and there, a week or two at a time. He's pretty good at self-monitoring his need for time away to recharge.

There's no doubt when our pastor takes time off, it's very well deserved. It's not good to try and work hard every day of the year and it shows badly in those who try to do that.

With the long winters, and yes we go soulwinning in the winter time, I am looking forward to a few rounds of golf. With that being said, it is always done on my own time. Preachers have family and needs too. The great commission is to all Christians, not just your pastor. He just might say, "Church Members That Are on Online Baptist Too Much...Are they wasting precious time. Should they be winning lost souls instead. How much Online Baptist is to much Online Baptist?" :)

I agree... :)     fat-preacher.jpg

Some would argue that one does not have their own time. If every minute is not directly dedicated to "christian" things then you are out of the will of God.

Members have family and needs too.

Rom 10:14  ".....and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? Are we to believe that all Christians are preachers?

If so, then we need to stop the misuse of the word/title.

By "their own time" I'm talking about non church type actives like sleeping and eating. If I was going to fulfill the great commission 100% of the time I would never sleep, and I would be on visitation with a slice of pizza in my hand stuffing my mouth while talking with my mouth full. Kinda silly for those who think one does not have their own time. Don't confuse own time with wasted time.

My pastor has stated that his family, and relaxation/recharge day is Monday's.  I for one try to never even email him and certainly don't call him on Mondays.  He did name his fishing boat "Visitation" though, so that when he is out fishing his secretary could say "the Pastor is out on Visitation".

Our senior pastor has Tuesdays off and our associate pastor has Thursdays off so I'm careful not to call or even email either of them on their off days.

I know one pastor who took a weeks vacation with the plan of staying home and catching up on things around the house, reading and relaxing. He told this to his congregation at each service for a couple weeks before his vacation, asking that he not be disturbed, reminding them that even though he was home, he would be on vacation.

Well, some people just didn't get it and after two days of constant interuptions he went to a motel in a nearby town and rented a room in order to get some privacy and time to actually read and relax.

I know a lady who had three severely disabled children - she told everyone that she was going overseas for two weeks, but actually went to a nearby town.
Otherwise she got called about every little thing - with people thinking she was overseas, they dealt with it themselves.
She actually got to relax.....
