Internet Bible Reading Surges

God is still great in the eyes of Americans, even on the internet. While an amazing 88 percent of the nation’s homes own a Bible, more and more are switching to the internet, cell phones and iPad for their weekly inspiration, according to a sweeping new survey of Bible use.

In their latest survey of Bible use, the American Bible Society finds that 41 percent of Americans used the internet to read the good book on a computer. Some 29 percent said they searched Bible verses on a cell phone and 17 percent said they read an electronic version of the Bible on a Kindle or iPad.

Having been a "disciple" of Chuck Missler, I have been using the Blue Letter Bible (online) since its inception. http://www.blueletterbible.org/

While I've done no survey, from what I've observed those who now read the Bible on an electronic device are ones who used to regularly read their physical Bible.

I've encountered very few who didn't regularly read their physical Bible who now do read the Bible electronically. Those few I do know typically aren't actually reading the Bible, they are just reading a short devotional passage or a verse or two.

Another thing I've noticed, just like some folks make sure they have a Bible in their home where others can see it, some folks now make sure they have a Bible app for the same purpose.

One area I have heard that electronic Bibles are making a real impact is in some Muslim areas.

No doubt, in years passed many had a Bible in their home just for show, & usually it was a larger very pretty Bible that is never used, its purely for show.

I do not read the Bible on he internet, but I do read my Bible on my computer, & have been doing so since about 2002. Now that I have a large flat screen it is much easier to read than a Bible that you hold in your hand. I use SwordSearcher.

And if you need to search the Scriptures, & surely everyone needs to do that, its much easier on the computer than a hand held Bible.

Yet I would have to totally disagree with beamup, God is not great in the eyes of most Americans. Most Americans hates the true God that we read about in the Holy Bible, & are doing all they can to kick Him out of our country while trying their best to shut up true Christians.

Indeed it's great to look up things in the Bible on the computer. So much easier and faster than other methods.

If I had a bigger screen I would probably read more on the computer too.

I absolutely agree with you that most American's don't have a great view of God. Most either hold to a false view of God or are outright hostile to the God of the Bible.
