Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, (D, Nev.) acknowledged in a statement that approval of a bailout could be tough to get: ?Senate Democrats are committed to doing all we can to help the auto industry,? he said. "But until next year, we still have the slimmest of majorities in the Senate; this will only get done if President Bush and Senate Republicans work with us in a bipartisan fashion."

Bipartisan="Do it the Democrat's way."
 :gross:

Oh yes, that's the way it's always been. Remember when BC shut down the government and blamed the Repubs? All because they wouldn't do what he wanted. And there aren't enough Repubs left in Congress with backbones connected to their mouths!!

Whenever liberals refuse to cooperate in a "bipartisan" manner they call it standing up for principles, right and the best interests of Americans.

Whenever non-liberals don't back the liberals they call it obstruction, refusal to work together, putting Party politics above the best interests of Americans.

Dems only want bipartisan efforts put forth when it means they get their way...exactly as was previously stated.

Since someone brought up the subject, what do you guys think about a "bailout" of the auto makers and the consequences of them totally going bankrupt (supposedly) if they don't?

The article pointed out that the airlines have gone bankrupt but if you notice, everybody is still flying as usual...Kmart went bankrupt and I still have a Kmart open right down the road from my house....(not that I shop there...).

The bailouts were to kiss up to Fannie Mae and now they are in a deep pit of having to be "fair" and its going to be hard to stop.

Fox News had some of their business people on discussing all of this and they were pointing out how this current bailout is already making things worse and will likely continue to make things worse for some time. Any new bailouts will continue this trend.

When the government gets involved, things go bad.

This is exactly why Davy Crockett refused to vote for a bill that would use taxpayers money to bail someone out. It is charity by government coercion and it should be a crime!

They have to remember that when 1/2 of American people agree with democrats, there is another 1/2 American people who don't. And that's a lot of people too. That's why they have to work together, in my opinion.

They are not just dealing with each other (politicans) but dealing with entire U.S. as well.

You cannot blame one party or the other for a lack of bipartisanship. Both are to blame.

This is true, both parties lack bipartisanship. But if you are honest, kind, you will have to admit that the Dems are worse at it. The Reps bend to the will of the Dems much more often than vice-versa. And the reason is simple - they don't have enough courage of conviction to believe that the American people want things to be done in a certain way (even though the majority of Americans still lean conservative...check out the election map for the red states...).

I disagree. Both are equally as bad.

This is because the Dems tend to really believe in their positions and are willing to fight for them. Most Repubs don't and won't.

Actually, I think it's more that Repubs are very poll driven (which, I guess, could be saying the same thing you just did!). They look at what the media is saying the American people want, without really looking at what their constituents want, and kowtow to the Dems because they are convinced they'll lose their seat if they don't. Of course, there is also the fact that many of the Repubs have the same philosophies as the Dems...

Yes, I think we are saying the same thing. If the Repubs truly held to the convictions they often claim to they would stand by them and be willing to fight for them rather than caving in just because lots of Dems gang up on them or the media isn't talking nice about their views, or someone took a poll that disagrees with them.
