But I'm not asking what you really look like. In another thread someone mentioned that on a different forum they briefly uploaded a photo of another person as their own avatar and it made me realise that someone's avatar on a chat forum can affect how you picture them, even if the photo is very obviously not them at all!

For example, I picture John81 as a cowboy with a big hat and I imagine HappyChristian walking round in camouflage gear all day. Kevin Miller I view as excitable, just because he's a zebra pulling a wheelie, whereas Seth Doty always gives off a calming air on account of his tranquil avatar. That sort of thing...

So how do you picture people on here, just based on their avatars? Obviously I'm not talking about those who have actually put their photo up, or those who are too boring to upload anything. :wink

What do I think other people on this website look like. I think most of them look a LOT younger than me!!! I am a gray haired senior saint and I thank you for assuming I am boring because I don't have an avatar. That's ok because I really am boring! hahaha. I don't have one because I don't know how to make one. :Bleh

If you want an avatar, Mom, just tell me.

If I didn't already know CJP56, I'd imagine her as an older lady who likes to garden, cook and craft. Oh wait....she does! :Bleh

Alimantado I picture as a quiet, softspoken, science-type person, maybe with glasses?

If I didn't already know Jim, I'd picture him as an Edison/Einstein type.

Jerry#s I picture as a cowboy type, not John81. I'm not sure how to picture him.

I don't really have mental images for people on here, but I usually think of their avatars when I think of them.
I do think the ones you mentioned seem pretty accurate, though. :wink
God bless,

Good answer, Crushmaster. You look like a friendly policeman who'd just shake his head and tell me to be on my way. Is that really you?

Jess, I'm asking how peoples' avatars have contributed to your mental image of them. Hence John81 as a cowboy because that's in his avatar. And no, I don't wear :cool

I am a gray haired senior saint..

I already knew that, CJP56, because your profile says 'Senior Member'. :wink

Don't worry, I've never thought of you as a bird brain based upon your avatar. :tum

That is funny! I have noticed the same thing. I'm on some other forums too and I especially find that if they use a cute girl or guy photo as an avatar, I think of them as looking like that rather than how they really look! (Such as the cake forum I'm on, etc...no worries!)

Same holds here as well....

I know what you look like so I don't think of you as a balloon cake...although I really did like your elephant cake (and so did my youngest son) avatar best, you look nothing like that either. :Green

I'm imagine jerry# as my pastor, except a little younger.. maybe brown hair, average American weight (since he love homecooked food) and height. (I know you want us to describe how we think what people look like based on their avatar, but sometimes I have a mental picture what they look like from the post they write)

Crushmaster's avatar is Michael Landon - famous American movie star. I believe that pic is from when he played Little Joe on the show Bonanza.

Well, I've changed my avatar a few times in the past few months. I guess though that I don't make judgements based on the avatar alone. Actually I don't think I try to guess how a person looks until they start talking about themselves a little bit. For instance, I know Kita is tall because she has said so before. And John has talked before about being in sweats, so to me he's perpetually in sweats. I guess I do picture Jerry# as having sort of a cowboy look with jeans and cowboy boots, but not with a cowboy hat but rather an old baseball hat. And of course Rachel and Samer are forever smiling big happy smiles! :Green
