Since we’re all involved in elections here in the U.S. I thought it might be interesting to revisit Pope elections.

I went to this site… . http://www.catholic-pages.com/pope/election.asp
1. The Pope dies
a. death is verified and a death certificate is authorized
b. the public is notified
c. preparations for the funeral rites and nine days of mourning.
2. The Interregnum (a period of discontinuity or "gap" in a government, organization, or social order)
a. the Camerlengo (Pope’s administrator) who is responsible for church government.
b. arrange the funeral and burial of the Pope.
c. directs the election of a new pope, assisted by three Cardinals, elected by the College of Cardinals
d. Departments of the central governing body are suspended from exercising their authority during the interregnum
e. After 15-20 days of "General Congregations", sermons at their Titular Churches on what kind of Pope the Church needs, and mourning for the Pope after his funeral, the Cardinal Electors enter the Conclave to choose which of them will emerge as Holy Roman Pontiff.
3. The Conclave
a. The Cardinals take oath upon entering to follow the rules set down by the Pope and maintain absolute secrecy about the voting and deliberations; penalty automatic excommunication.
b. They cast ballots.
c. The votes are then counted by the Cardinal Camerlengo and his three assistants.
d. The third assistant runs a needle and thread through the centre of each ballot to join them all together. The ballots are then burned, with chemicals for white smoke (new Pope chosen) black smoke (no Pope) as a sign to those waiting. In addition to the white smoke, the bells of St Peter's Basilica will be rung to signal the election of the new Pope.
The maximum number of Cardinal Electors allowed at any one time is 120.

Pope John Paul II himself promulgated new rules in 1996 He has not departed radically from the traditional structure. But he has made some significant changes:

New rules
• if no cardinal has been elected by two-thirds majority after a certain number of ballots, the cardinals may agree by absolute majority (half + 1) to elect the Pope by an absolute majority instead of a two-thirds majority
• rather than stay in uncomfortable, makeshift quarters in the Papal Palace, the Cardinals will stay in the Domus Sanctae Marthae, hotel-style accommodation in Vatican City
• the only remaining method of electing the Pope is by scrutiny, ie, silent ballot -- the methods of election by acclamation and by committee have been excluded (but were rarely used)
• the older cardinals are still unable to enter the conclave, but they are invited to take an active role in the preparatory meetings
• the rules on secrecy are tougher

Questions:
Since Popes were all just regular priests at one time in their past…

Do you think during the closed door session those cardinals are checking for reports of child molestation before selecting a man as their next pope?

Is there any chance a past Pope slipped through the screening with a secret background of molesting children?

Do you think the question above ever cross the mind of the Roman Church members?

Do you wonder why there is so much secrecy involved in Pope elections?

Do you think the electorate have secret communications between themselves about improper conduct or make up things about each other to sway votes?

That is really the only question I could answer... I do wonder. I think it is very important to the RCC to make themselves look clean and superior. They want to set the ultimate example of being a perfect church and faith. Any little bit of controversy surrounding a possible Pope in his past they want to keep quiet I'm sure. I mean, look at them.. they support people allowing their children to watch The Simpson's because it is the only show that regularly brings up faith and the family goes to church. Yet the morals are wrong, they drink, there's violence, foul language... The RCC wants to look good and they do so by making everyone happy. Bringing out controversy during the elections (i.e. Pope's possible involvement in child molestation) would crumble the RCC.

It really makes no difference, they stand firmly against God and are not of God. Its a man made institution, it has nothing whatsoever to do with a New Testament Church nor Jesus, they have every right to run this man made institution the way they choose. And that is what they have done since their beginning. The sad thing is they have fooled many people and will lead many people to hell, their judgment will be harsh.

It's a shame more professing Christians don't see this. I'm constantly amazed at the number of pastors who refuse to acknowledge the wickedness of the RCC. Even if they or someone else mentions some ungodly aspect of the RCC they are ever so quick to say that some in the RCC truly love Jesus and are saved.

Why even call the RCC Christian when it's not?

Of course these days more and more pastors are calling Mormons Christians! :o

Many are called, yet few there be that have ears to hear with or eyes to see with, they let the old devil blind them to God's truths.

I've actually know several who claimed to be born again, but they were OBviously very uninformed with regards to Scripture, who wanted to join the RCC because of all ceremony and ritual. Most never actually got around to doing so, but they still had an attraction to the "stuff" of Catholicism.

This is a prOBlem many face as it's so much easier to "do" things that seem "holy" than it is to actually read and study the Word and to pursue biblical holiness in ones own life.

Over the years when I've witnessed to Catholics and they have come to Christ, I have not seen even one who wanted to remain in the RCC. All of them instantly recognized the wickedness of the RCC and immediately were in search of a biblical church home.

Why any born again Christian would remain in the RCC or join the RCC I don't know, but from what the Word says, I would have to figure that only a very few would do so and they would be of those who are biblically ignorant beyond the issue of salvation.

I wish Julie L would come back...I believe we were causing her to doubt the Roman Church dogma. I was fearful she bolted after confronting the "priesthood" with our discussions.

It's wonderful when someone in the RCC is receptive to the truth, comes to Christ and removes themselves from the RCC.

It's so sad when some don't want to face the truth when it goes against the RCC and they run from the truth. However, even then a seed has been planted and we can pray the Lord would yet reach them and that seed would take root and reap a crop of salvation.

It is sometimes hard for an ex catholic. I know a fine christian woman who is an ex catholic and she says "When somebody attacks the Catholic Church my blood seems to boil, but then I realize it is the truth and I settle down again,

RCC stands for Roman Catholic Cult, correct?

A long time ago we used to have a visiting preacher who gave messages on the cults. I aske him if he would give us one on the RCC. Soon after he did speak on them and afterwards said "Until you said that and I started to research it, I did not even cosider the Roman Catholic Church was a cult."

Well, they do put on a good show of being Christian but as we know...they have all the makings of a cult. It saddens me to know they had me blinded for so long.

When I was young no one around these parts accept them as Christian, yet that has changed, seems most will accept someone as Christian no matter what they believe. And without checking out their beliefs. Them is you refer to them as fasles teachers your not of God.
