I sanyone familiar with jammign devices? I'm having a teenager prOBlem. Would it be possible to use a cellphone jamming device in my house? It would only be turned on at bedtime and would have a very short(10 to 15 meter) range. Would this transmit through walls?

As far as I am aware in the US, blocking of cell phone signals is prohibited by federal law, under the Communications Act of 1934 (regarding radio transmissions). Manufacture, importation and sale of these devices is prohibited as well.

Blocking of a cell phone is not selective and any device that blocks one, will block others within the reach of the jammer.

Of course, that is not saying these devices are not available. You can find anything if you look hard enough. Ask yourself, is it worth the consequences?

I've assessed the situation like this;
The jammer I'm looking at has a range of only 10 to 15 meters. My house sits in the middle of 80 acres and the closest neighbor is almost a quarter mile away. The signal of this device is not likely to even reach my yard, let alone a neighbor's. I just want to jam phones inside my house during sleeping hours. We still have a landline so it shouldn't pose a hazard to any emergency communications for us....unless it jams those too. I see no prOBlem with it afecting anyone else and unless my wife or kids turn me in, I see no danger of legal trouble.

Why not just restrict the usage of the cell phone by taking it away from the teenager?

In a case like this, you will have to evaluate the risk for yourself. Federal law makes no distinction as to where these are used. Illegal is illegal. You will need to let your conscience be your guide. Consider, up to 1 year in prison and $11,000 for each violation (first offense). Plus any likely legal issues if by some slim chance, is detected as blocking a life or death communication.

As raised in a previous post, parental restriction sounds like your best option. They make cell phones today with parental controls. Best bet is to use one of those. Edited by brother_mike

Kids smuggle something into their bed room? Surely not.

I was sent to bed at 9:00 PM, I didn't like it. I had a flashlight, I close the door, cover up and read a book. Yes, I must admit, I got caught and the flashlight got taken away from me. Later on I got a small transistor radio, I would listen to it. It would make me mad when I fell asleep with it on. My battery would get used up, many times it would be 2 weeks before I could get to town and get a new one.

Let's see, if the feds make a law that you can't spank your kid, but the word of God says to do it, what are you going to do then? I've already explained to you and if you read it closely, you will see that there is going to be NO EFFECT to ANYONE outside the 4 walls if my house. I have prOBlem with a grown 22 yearold WOMAN in MY CHURCH trying to smuggle cell phones to my 16 yearold son. She has been warned, caught and confronted by my pastor as well.
She has done worse stuff too but I will stop right there. I could have gotten a restraining order but I have been MERCIFUL sir. I am at my wit's end and have laid awake praying MANY nights over my kids and by the grace of God, I do NOT intend to lose them to the devil.

Maybe a cellphone detector then?

Well, I am not going to equate laws regarding the unauthorized transmission of radio waves meant to disrupt a legal transceiver to spanking. Two totally different issues. A jamming device will extend outside the walls of your house. If there was something that would keep them in, then you would not have this issue. Although metal impregnated wall coverings to block the phone is totally legal, as is any other PASSIVE method. This may be of interest as well:

Cell phone Detector

Since you brought it up, perhaps a good spanking is what is needed. If an adult was smuggling anything to my minor child, I would not be merciful, a restraining order would be issued, if other avenues were not successful.

My 16 year old is only allowed a cell phone when away from home at school, an outing, etc. Only for contacting us or other emergency situations. Not allowed to chit chat or any other use.

Please remember, we are commanded to respect the laws of our government, unless it otherwise conflicts with God's Laws.

Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.
6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.

Cell phone Detector, wow, did not know there was such a thing. There be many places that needs these things. I dislike setting next to someone in a doctor's office, hospital, being in line at the check out counter, setting in a eating joint, and someone fired up and or receives a call and I have to listen to them talk on their phone.

Seems there has been nothing come along in America that makes people any ruder that those who has a cell phone in their possession.

I have learned that most people are going to do what they want to, no matter how much "static" they get by it. if you plan on going ahead with this, in spite of all that has been said, go for it, but be ready to pay the price whatever it may be.

My kids all moved out before the cell phone craze, so I don't have to deal with that, but we have always been slow to never for keeping up with the technology anyway! I never did get a CB radio or a ten speed when everyone was going through that craze, and I was the last one on my block (so to speak) to even have an answering machine in the telephone! I wish they still had rotary phones!

I was early on in the CB Days, had much enjoyment. PrOBably what got me into CB's was truck driving. Yet I sure behind on the cell phones, never had one, and I do not want one. Yet I can see a few good reasons to have one. The uncomely behavior of those who have them keeps me from joining their ranks.

Rotay phones, how about one like this.

heartstrings, sorry if my post offended you, I was merely trying to help.

A wise man told me once "If you are not ready to hear the answer, do not ask the question" and I try to practice that. Please don't expect everyone to agree with you, if they did, we would not have forums to discuss matters in!

I did not mean to sound harsh, but as I re-read my post, it does sound kind of mean. Sorry.
