Please pray for my son Andrew...as some of you know, he has had chronic autoimmune urticaria (chronic hives, caused by internal immune system issues) for three of his five years now. He's been on so many different drugs for it. For the longest time he's been on four pills morning and night and the hives have slowly been getting worse instead of better.

This week on top of his other drugs he has started cyclosporine, which is an immunosuppressant that people take who have had organ transplants to keep the body from rejecting the organ. He is taking it on a lower dosage than they would use, but its supposed to calm his immune system down and hope that it resets it and allows the hives to go away. It does have possible side effects and is a very potent drug, to be used for only a few months. So he is taking a total of ten pills per day now, half in the morning and half at night.

He's been on the cyclosporine for about 2 1/2 days now (3 by the time most of you read this)....I was hoping for a pretty dramatic improvement and yes he did improve...but he is still having alot of small hives popping up. I'm starting to feel a little panicky inside, because if the hives still keep coming while he is on all these drugs, then there is absolutely no hope, outside of a miracle from God of course, of them going away on their own. My little guy has been itchy as long as he can remember, and some days it really affects his mood. He was getting blood stains on his pillowcase from scratching at night. There really isn't alot more the doctors can do after trying this drug...there is one more I can ask about but its very new, not approved for his age, and VERY expensive, and some scary risks with it.

Please pray for him especially but also for me because its so hard to watch him have to itch. The cyclosporine has made him more comfortable but its not a long term drug...only a few months. If this does not work...I don't know what they will do next. I've been getting used to this hive thing and all the drugs but now that we have started this "big" drug and still he is having some hives so far, I'm just having some trouble watching my preschooler down five pills at a time and still having hives come up.

Thank you for your prayers!

What is your sons first name? I have prayed, and the Lord knows who he is, but it is nice to be able to pray for them by name. Poor little guy, I will remember him in prayer too. Please let us know when the Lord intervenes.

His name is Andrew. Thanks! Its been a long three years with this so I don't see "intervention" anytime soon...on the other hand, God could heal him tomorrow if he so chose.

Will put Andrew on my prayer list!

I hope your son is doing better. Just a question for you. Can danders trigger hives? I can't find anything about it but everytime our son get around the dog, he break out in hives. It only mentioned food, insects, plants like poison ivy, but nothing about pollens, danders, etc. touching the skin. It just says when it is inhale. I thought maybe you know something since you have been heavily researched on this topic.

btw, just to let you know, I can write on my skin and develop hives that way. Pretty neat.

Wouldn't it be nice if all those people who love tattoos was allergic to them?

I wonder if they do.

btw, when I mentioned writing, I wanted make sure none of you think I was using a pen or marker. I mean writing with a blunt OBject, or even with my fingernail (not scratch!) It does appear that I did scratch myself, but I didn't. It usually goes away completely within 30 minutes. A real scatch would stay for days. I think this type of hive is called dermographism

That was not where my thought came from, it just came from the thought that some people are allergic to some things. th_tiphat.gif
