Okay, so I asked about Billy Graham last week.....this week is Adrian Rogers. He is most commonly known for his program "Love Worth Finding" and pastoring a very large church. He has been accused of getting caught up in money instead of souls by some, but others have praised his powerful and convicting preaching along with what some call his "depth of knowledge". What are your thoughts. I look forward to all comments.

Adrian Rogers is dead. The recordings I've ever heard of him (even though he was still a SBC guy before dying) he was as hard a preacher on sin and separation as most IFBers I've heard. That's about all I know about him.

Thanks for mentioning that as I failed to do so in the OP, Adrian Rogers died about (if I remember right) three or four years ago. However, they still continue his program "Love Worth Finding" with repeats of his recorded library.

The times I have heard him on the radio he has been straight forward. He does not dance around the bush but tells it like it is. I have heard him preach against drinking; that kind of surprised me! After that sermon, I had a lot of respect for him.

I heard him a few years ago on London Premier Radio. One sermon caused particular concern - about Lot - "Disgrace to Grace." It was on the interet & I listened carefully several times.

Once you're saved, you can sin badly & not lose your salvation.

And every sermon ends with the salvation prayer ....

Listen with care, & with an open Bible.

Not familiar with the particular sermon, however, do you believe that you can lose your salvation??

The "salvation prayer" offers easy salvation, & assuring people who have just "sincerely said that prayer" that they are now saved & secure even if they then lead sinful lives is very dangerous. True he is very clear that believers should live holy lives but to allow them to then live sinful lives & still be in a state of salvation is serious error. That is what he was teaching.

No. I do not believe that those truly saved can lose their salvation. I believe, however, that if those who we thought of as true believers, even our trusted leaders, turn from the Gospel, & live godless lives, they are not saved, & therefore were never saved.

So you believe a person can lose their salvation?

If so, just what sin or sins does one have to commit that will cause them to lose their salvation?

His radio messages I have heard for the most part seemed pretty sound doctrinally, certainly better than some of the other radio preachers. He sounded genuine too unlike some other radio preachers that sound pretty fake. I know very little about him personally or his past ministry but I haven't noticed anything that sent up red flags in his messages. To the contrary he always seemed closer to IFB's than the SBC in his sermons. I also know he always uses the KJV in the messages I hear on the radio(unfortunately thats a rarity locally) but I don't know if he was actually KJVO or just chose to use it for one reason or another.

I think your right, he was one who partially reeled in the liberal SBC a few years back. I heard many of his radio messages, they all seemed biblical and conservative.

While the sinners prayer is prOBably not the best way to go, I am glad that Adrian preaches the true and pure Gospel of Jesus Christ in each message. I have heard him preach repentance many times too. Repentance is the act of turning from your old life. Preaching repentance is not easy salvation.

Jerry, if you had read my post #7 you would not have written your post #8.

Some times all of us state things in such a way that everyone is not positive of what it means.

That is why I used the words, "IF SO."

By the way, I read it, but if that is your attitude, forget it.

Oh, by the way, the shortest sinners prayer, and it is even in the Bible.

I love Adrian Rogers. I was in a serious car accident several years ago and received a very nice note from him. I love his preaching and have a couple of hundred of his sermons on my ipod.

He also deserves my respect because he was crucial in the battle to rescue the SBC from liberalism.

If I have any criticism at all, it isn't with his doctrine, but that toward the last few years of his life, his preaching style became a little erratic and sometimes you listen to his later sermons and just wonder "what in the world is he talking about". But, you know, Adrian Rogers at 50% is still better than most preachers at their 100%.
