God also tells us things like, we're to "love our enemies" so that we will be like Him. Well, if we are to love our enemies, when He hates His, that wouldn't be "like Him" at all would it? If loving the sinner is what WE are told to do, while God doesn't love them Himself....that would kind of make us better than Him in that respect wouldn't it?And I know that's not so.…

Here is the account in Genesis 38:8-10 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother. 9 And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother. 10 And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also. Please notice Judah’s instructions to Onan in verse 8. “and marry her (Tamar), and raise up seed to thy brother.” This means that the product of the union of Tamar and Onan would inherit Er’s birthright, not Onan himself. This duty of the husband’s brother is …

When responding to the Pharisees' request for a sign, why do you suppose the Messiah made the specific point that He would be in the "heart of the earth" for 3 days and 3 nights?

Have you ever been confused by Christ's word to His disciples at the last supper? I wondered what he meant for a long time, until I realized who He was talking to and what meal they were eating. The disciples were Jewish and the meal was the Passover Feast. The Passover was the day Israel was freed from Egypt. It was celebrated on the 14th day of the first month of the Jewish calendar, unless someone was providentially hindered, then provision was made so that person could celebrate the Passover on the 14th day of the second month. It is the only holy convocation with such a provision. (Exodus 12 and Numbers) So Christ was celebrating the Passover meal with His disciples.…

"Jonah 2:10 And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land." "Jonah 3:1-4 And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying, Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee. So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days journey. And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown." I had always been under the impression that the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time immediately after the whale spit him out. BUT …

The Three Persons of the Godhead are Coequal The Bible depicts God as a plurality of three persons of equal rank, existing in mutual submission. This plurality in the Godhead first gets seen when “God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” (Gen. 1:26). The Bible speaks of the equality of the Son, “Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God” (Php. 2:5-6). And, of the Spirit’s deity, the Bible says, our “body is the temple of the Holy Ghost” (1 Cor. 6:19). Male and Female Depict God’s Image When “God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them…

When a Christian passes away, you often hear that they are in a better place. In the future will be with them, and they will be with us, those that believe in Jesus. How true is this, and what does the Bible tell us, about seeing our loved ones in heaven? We know it is a place where we will have new bodies, no sin. That we will all be worshiping God. But I believe, it does not mention the family you have here on earth, will be your family in heaven too. Thanks ? TGL

The article below is significantly longer than most blog posts. In fact, it’s actually a small booklet I have recently written relative to questions I’ve been asked regarding funding new church plants. If you would prefer to read this as a PDF, you can download the booklet here. In whichever way you read—booklet or blog post—I pray these thoughts are a helpful contribution to needful discussions and to forward momentum in planting gospel-preaching, Baptist churches. Introduction There are two years of ministry that stand out as launching forth moments in my mind. The first is 1986 when the Lord led my wife, Terrie, and me to Lancaster, California, where a small and …

It's not my rule, it's how God set it up. The only way to support woman pastors is to quote more people than Scripture.

We often find ourselves unfulfilled with our circumstances, whether those circumstances are external or internal. Maybe our perspective is the answer. Take the long view through the eyes of faith. The short view is that the Lord has not returned yet. The long view is that He will return and the time draws nigh. The short view is that we haven't accomplished our goals. The long view is that we need to be patient and stablish our hearts. The short view is that the saints aren't all we had hoped. To live above with saints we love, ah that will be glory. To live below with saints we know, now that's another story. The long view is to let the Lord handle that. The short view i…

I know what the terms mean.. independent, fundamental, baptist.. And I know those terms I'd be comfortable sitting with.. but I think there is a danger in making it like methodist.. Anglican.. catholic etc... in the sense of attaching a name and making that the priority rather than the Bible. I don't think people are really doing it here... but the denominational name can be what people attach to rather than the biblical content and teaching that leads to the labels.

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to interview Dr. Jerry Vines for the Spiritual Leadership Podcast. Some of the audio and technical quality was not up to the quality we desired, so we held on posting it. However, I felt the content of this interview is relevant and important, so we are posting today in hopes that it will be a help and encouragement to you. In this episode, Dr. Vines and I discussed ministry trends and his commitment to Bible truth. I enjoyed our discussion and hope you will enjoy it as well. If you cannot view this video in your email or RSS reader, click here.) If this episode of the Spiritual Leadership Podcast was a blessing to you, please s…

Revelation 6:13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. We all should know that if our "sun" is a "star", and a whole bunch of these "suns" fell to earth it would be instantly vaporized. Is it really referring to asteroids or comets? Bear with me here. What we call "food", the King James calls "meat" and what we call "meat" the King James calls "flesh". There are many other examples of meanings of words which have "drifted" over time like this. The reason I ask is because this just came across my Facebook feed.....and let me first say, I do not hold to anything that Neil Degrasse …

A self-righteous person is someone who strongly believes in their own moral superiority and constantly seeks to assert it over others. They tend to exhibit certain characteristics, including: Moral superiority: Self-righteous individuals consider themselves to be morally superior to others. They often judge and criticize people who do not meet their standards or beliefs. Judgmental attitude: They have a tendency to be highly judgmental, constantly scrutinizing the actions, choices, and beliefs of others. They often see themselves as the ultimate arbiters of what is right and wrong. Lack of empathy: Self-righteous people may struggle to empathize with o…

A challenge put to me when writing about the sign gifts ceasing was on what the two witnesses could do in that they seemed to operate with the gifts of the Spirit in prophecy. I couldn't really refute the argument that they must still be for now if the witnesses could do that in the future. I'd like your thoughts on this, but recently I heard that people don't lose their gifts given.. so if they were sent back to earth from being apostles 2000 years ago.. or not apostles but people who had the gifts.. then they could operate in them during Revelation times. Your thoughts?

When I was in Bible college at Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Watertown, WI back in 1983, there were several of us preacher boys who were studying the rapture of the church. Some held to what seems to be the prevailing view of the pre-tribulation rapture. There were some, however, that held to the view of the mid-tribulation/pre-wrath rapture. This was an interesting viewpoint, and I studied it further. There was a third group, and they held to the position that the rapture occured post-tribulation/pre-millenial Kingdom of Christ. It has always made me wonder why people hold the positions they hold on this subject. What position do you hold, and why? Please use Script…

Job 19:23-29 ¶ Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book! 24 That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever! 25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: 26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: 27 Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me. 28 But ye should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me? 29 Be ye afraid of the sword: for wrath bringeth the punishments of the sword, that ye may know there is a judgment. Job is th…

O LORD, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, and they that depart from Me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the Fountain of Living Water. Jeremiah 17:13 Might this be a prophecy of John 7:37-8:11? Thoughts please.

The meme I'm posting here is becoming something that is going on in many Baptist denominational churches. It's shameful and very disconcerting...but I guess that it's a sign of people's unwilligness to follow the Bible, wanting instead to be "all inclusive" in doctrine and practices. I hate what I've seen...but thanks be to God for those churches that are still standing for the truth! This meme was borrowed from FB
