I would like to know what you all would recommend to someone that is looking for a commentary that reflects the fundamentals of our Baptist faith and does not rely on higher scholarship or other modernistic trends. Any thoughts?

James White's Shell Game - "Now you see it, and now you don't" Shell game - Definition 1. The game in which spectators bet on the final location of an object hidden under one of three walnut shells or cups that have been shuffled. 2. A scheme for defrauding or deceiving people. James White is a well known critic of the inerrancy of the King James Bible. I have read his book, The King James Only Controversy, many times and I wish to address some of the issues he brings up regarding the accuracy of some of the readings found in the King James Bible. You should first realize that James White does NOT believe ANY Bible or any text in any language IS NOW the…

First off I want to say "I know this is supposed to be KJV only", but please bare with me. Secondly I figure this is the best place to put this thread - feel free to move it if it's not. Basically I'm curious to know the differences between the KJV and NIV bibles, I know they were translated at different times by different people, etc, but I think I'm more curious to know "why you use KJV". I've only ever owned two bibles - I got a Good News Bible when I was a kid and started going to church, from one of the families there, and recently bought myself a NIV because it's what used most often in our (Baptist) church, and cellgroups. I don't have any particular prefe…

Acts 19:35 Diana or Artemis - Jupiter, Zeus, or Heaven? "And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess DIANA, and of the image which fell down from JUPITER?" There are a growing number of Christians today who no longer believe in the inerrancy of Scripture. Some reluctantly and others boldly come right out and tell us that "No Bible and No single text in any language, (be it Hebrew, Greek, English, Swahili, or whatever) IS NOW the complete, inerrant, and 100% true and accurate words of God." I believe this is one of the predicte…

2 Samuel 21:8 Michal or Merab? Hello Brother Kinney! I had the privilege to read some of your articles. They were very helpful in defending Gods word! I have been challenged with a question. I am not sure if I have the correct answer. Can you please help me out with the below question. 2 Samuel 6:23 - Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death. 2 Samuel 21:8 - But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bare unto Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she brought up for Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite: Did Michal have sons? How can this …

The Message Bible and II Cor. 5:20 "We're speaking for Christ himself now: Become friends with God; he's already a friend with you." Is God really a friend to everyone? Why was there a partition wall separating man from God and only the high priest could approach and ask for forgiveness from sins? Why were we at enmity with God? What does Scripture say and what can anyone add to this discussion?

I was in a "Christian" (read: new evangelical) bookstore when I say this in the Bible section. Apparently some British actor thought it necessary to rewrite the Bible in "hip" language to appeal to the mass market. Apparently Leviticus isn't important. To quote the auther: "Well, if you need more Leviticus in your spiritual life, then you need help." Here is his rendition of Genesis 1:1-2 - "First off, nothing ... but God. No light, no time, no substance, no matter. Second off, God says the word, and WHAP! Stuff everywhere! The cosmos in chaos: no shape, no form, no function -- just darkness ... total. And floating above it all, God's Holy Spirit, ready for action." …

I keep running into people who won't read the Bible because they say it's boring. The Bible contains history, prophecy, science, and the very words of God. That's hardly boring.

In another thread, I was told that my method of using proper hermaneutical principles to study the scriptures is wrong, wrong, wrong but then the person couldn't tell me what is the right way to study the scriptures. Can anybody give me some advice on this? What do you believe is the best way to study the Bible?

Romans 3:25 "remission"; and Romans 7:15 "I allow not" "In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes." Judges 21:25 What is your Final Authority? Do you believe the promises of God to give us a Book containing all His inspired and inerrant words, or do you believe, as most Christians today, that there is no inerrant Bible in any language? Is your Final Authority the King James Holy Bible, or is it A Lexicon, another commentator or your own understanding? There are many today who heap fulsome praise on that old Book telling us how wonderful it is, but then they add that its "archaic" language needs to be updated,…

I heard a surprising statement that was made. I don't know the person who made the statement, but I do know there were others who agreed with it. Here it is: "King James was a queer. Why would anyone want to read a Bible authorized by him?" Someone help me with the history on this. I just can't believe such a thing....also if anyone knows what publication(s) would have printed this type of information, I'd like to know the titles. Thanks in advance, y'all.

I hope this is the right forum to post this in. I am trying to find a book or books on how to study the Bible from a IFB perscective. Most places I have found are topics like "What the Bible says about ..." I am looking for more of a "To find what the Bible says, do ..." I have studied hermanutics from a NON-IFB approach, but am interested in finding out how Fundamentalists approach the scriptures. College level texts are fine. This is a serious request from a serious searcher. Thanks so much...

This I copied from a christian web page, and its confusing what she is saying, can someone explain this to me and tell me if it is true or false? "why the catholic bible has several diffrent books then my bible like ruth or the 1 and2 mackabes??" The Hebrew Bible contained only the Old Testament and from its Old Testament it excluded seven entire books - namely, Tobias, Judith, Wisdom, Ecclesiasticus, Baruch, First and Second Machabees - and parts of Esther (10:14 to 16:14) and Daniel (3:24- 90; 13; 14). These books which are missing in the Jewish Bible came to the Catholic Church with the Septuagint, a pre-Christian Greek translation of the Old Testament. In t…

Hello, My name is Ken. I attend Fundamental Baptist Church in Summerside, PEI (www.fbcsummerside.org) I am in the process of revamping our web going from a unix server to an IIS server and so my code will now be in asp. The new website (not published on web yet) is near complete but I have yet to include an Ostervald Bible translation on it. I have a KJV version already in place. I do have an Ostervald version on hand but the number of verses is 31152. The KJV is 31102, a difference of 50 verses. I cannot account for the difference. Can someone point me to an Ostervald Bible. I prefer to have it in a database form or strictly text. In addition, I unde…

In light of recent archaeological evidence (http://www.americanvision.org/articlear ... -10-05.asp), is it possible that 616 is the number of the beast and not 666? 616 has been a known variant for some time. It (and 666) could refer to Nero -- the 666 total is a numeric equal to Nero's name in Hebrew; 616 is his name calculated in Latin. PErsonally, I think that 666 is the true number, inspite of how many people are jumping on this new bandwagon.

(Based on a premise that I am a KJV only user and that I also use a program called SwordSearcher which helps me find words and topics, and is basically a large concordance.) Would I benefit by using a Greek text or New Testament? Im not familiar with all of them. I have heard of a Nestly Alan Greek text or something like that. Based on the above premise, does anyone recommend a particular text or does anyone think it would be a waste of money in that I would not use it that much?

I was thinking of a neat way to share some things about ourselves and our walks with the Lord: Pick a book of the Bible and tell us (or quote) what verses of the Bible you have memorized out of it. They would obviously be a reflection of something that you (or God) was emphasizing in your life at particular points in time. For example, it would show what was important to you as you read that book of the Bible. Post more than once if you want, but please choose one book per post, so we can read through them easier. I will share some of my verses a little later tonight when I am at work.
