Tickles me to hear people say how humble he sounded in his speech about it. Humble is one adjective that cannot be applied to BO. True humility would have been to refuse it so that someone like Greg Mortenson, who has started over a dozen schools in Afghanistan and that area could receive it. Greg was nominated as well. And he has actually done something, not just talked about it.

Personally, I think they chose BO to push him into pulling our troops out of the Middle East. Whatever anyone wants to think about the war, it's not done yet, and pulling our troops out will make matters worse, not better.

Interesting that his prize is a call to action rather than a reward for jOB done.

Excellent OBservations LuAnne! I was thinking in a similar manner today when I heard a reporter commenting that OBama was so nOBle for saying he didn't deserve the same honour as Nelson Mandela and others but that he would try to live up to it.:icon_rolleyes: As you so rightly point out, if he were truly humble, if he truly believed he didn't deserve the award he would have refused to accept it.

You are right on target that the main reason OBama was given this award was an attempt to apply pressure/support for getting American troops out of the Middle East and to get America to bow to the beliefs of the likes of the EU.

It's very telling where OBama's mindset is when we consider his comments regarding Afghanistan of late. Recently the Taliban has clearly shown they have reorganized and are a major power player in Afghanistan and Pakistan. However, OBama has been publicly declaring American can live with the Taliban holding some power, that the Taliban is not a threat to America, and that America should only be concerned with preventing Al Quida (sp) from being able to strike America again.

True, most Americans have a very short attention span. Most prOBably don't even remember why America first engaged in Afghanistan. However, just a tiny bit of research would clearly enlighten them that it was the Taliban who provided Al Quida with safe haven to train for terror attacks against America. It was the Taliban who refused to go after Al Quida in their country or to allow America to go after them. Under the Taliban, Afghanistan was a very radical Muslim country holding strong to Islamic law and supporting the beliefs that Israel must be eliminated and that all non-Muslims must be converted or exterminated.

All this, plus what the Taliban is doing today, and yet OBama is proclaiming they are not really our enemy and he could declare victory in Afghanistan by proclaiming Al Quida is no longer a threat and would be comfortable pulling out of Afghanistan even if the Taliban controlled much of Afghanistan.:smilie_loco:4

Aren't we in the day when good people are called bad, and bad people are called good?

Think about the Hollywood crowd who takes up for criminals, but I fear it will wax much worse.

Wax and wane, I'm with you. The wane will be a sorrow for those fixated with the world.

Should he win the NOBel Peace Prize while he still has troops in Iraq and Afghanistan killing people?

My thought exactly. He's occupying two third world countries. How does that equal peace? Wait until he sends the troops home, then give him the Prize- I'll support that.

They have said he was given the prize, at least in part, because of the "hope" of peace he has brought the world.

Bringing the troops home from Afghanistan and Iraq still wouldn't be reason to award him the prize. True peace is much more than the abscense of war.

Also, let's not forget that America still has troops in over 100 other countries.
