What do any of you know about the author, minister, George MacDonald? I know he was a mentor to C.S. Lewis, but I'm not usdr of his beliefs, influences, etc...?

I have read some bio's and some say he did not believe in hell and had some of the problems Lewis had. Just google his name and add beliefs or heresy and these bio's will come up.

Yes, by all means, google him! You'll find some great stuff! I am just discovering him myself, after years of enjoying more recent authors who were influenced by him (Lewis, Tolkien, L'Engle, Carrol, et al). He wrote deep, thought-provoking, noble works of literature. I do not agree with all of his doctrine...but then I can't remember reading one single author with whom I agree 100%. Some would call some of his views heretical, and maybe they are. But those who, as the Bible says, can handle "meat" would certainly be discerning enough to separate his error from his oh-so-profoundly expressed truth. Some of his books are "on the docket" for our family reading sometime this year.

(I will say that I'm generally not a fan of Victorian British prose. I have to struggle through some of what MacDonald has written, and keep myself from getting distracted by all the "Victorianisms"...but the insights I've gained and the beautiful truth I have enjoyed have been well worth the struggle.)

George MacDonald influenced a lot of C.S. Lewis' work -- and not in a good way! I found the Crossroad site to be very informative as far as information on the heresies of both MacDonald and Lewis. You could try reading the articles listed on this link:

Make sure you read this article as well, on Christian Romanticism:

Edited to add: It's not a KJV site, just so you know.
