This thread now has 420,000 views. I'm not sure if that's really neat or rather sad...

Let's say it's a declaration of the profundity to be found within the 1,090 pages in this thread! :clapping:

I'm in Leviticus in my morning Bible reading and it's so profound just how seriously God views sin while we typically don't see sin as being anywhere near just how bad it is.

It's clear in Leviticus just how serious some sins are (since God prescribed the death penalty for them) yet today they are winked at, not seen as so bad, or even considered good! Some of the things God calls sins worthy of the death penalty include cursing ones parents, adultery, any sort of witchraft (psychics, astrologists, wiccans, etc.), and other things that are so common today, often even in churches.

Yes, sad to say most churches theses days do not speak out against certain sins, for they know that might cause their leaders & members to have convictions & if that were to happen the offering plate might become very light, if that happened they would have to cut their entertainment budget, & with that budget cut they would lose their only drawing card.

Thank goodness, there's still a few churches out there whose only attraction is Jesus.

Yes, praise God for those churches where the whole Word is preached boldly!

I know of a Southern Baptist church where a married man had been having an affair for about 2 years. This man's wife sought help from the pastor but the pastor was unhelpful. The married man was also a local businessman who donated large sums to the church.

Eventually the husband and wife were divorced and the man moved his former mistress into his house and began bringing her to church with him. The wife brought this up with the pastor who was not happy the wife did so. The result was the former wife was shunned for being divorced while nothing was said to the former husband and his "girlfriend" (former mistress and now live-in-girlfriend). The former wife was basicaly pushed out of the church and all those she had thought were her friends in the church turnded their backs on her because the pastor had put the word out she was to be shunned. Meanwhile, her former husband made a large donation about that time, not doubt his idea of a thank you to the pastor. No sermons in that church about the sin of adultery!

Hey, that sounds much like my ex-son-in-law.

He attends when he wants to, & brings his live in wife, & their baby girl with him. It seems that no one bothers to tell him about his sins.

I suppose this must be quite common.

It does seem to be fairly common. Scripture says we are not to prefer any person in the church over any other but that's certainly not the way it's done in many churches. It's too common for those who donate lots of money, those who hold positions of power in the community (politics, business, etc.) and sometimes those who are friends with the pastor or deacons, receive special treatment. All too often this special treatment includes looking the other way when they are in open sin, not preaching on certain topics, planning sermons with mind not to risk offending certain folks in the church rather than according to the leading of the Spirit.

I'm very thankful to be in a church with pastors who don't practice such things. They preach the Word, as is, no matter who is in the congregation. If the passage being preached on that day covers adultery, then the pastor preaches the truth on that.

Today I'm very much looking forward to hearing the Word preached and also attending adult Sunday school.

Not going to find any of that in my church, while the pastor does not shun anyone, he will make sure that the church knows where he and God stands on the matter. We have had lesbians come to our church, unmarried couples, people who are divorced, etc. he will not alter God's Word for any of it, eventually those who are living in sin end up leaving on their own, no doubt of their convictions.

I too have been reading Leviticus, everytime I read Exodus through Deuteronomy I cannot help but think of how wretched I am and how blessed I am to be a sinner saved by grace.

What upsets me is pastors that all these things and the things that the pastor get away with, I was listening to the news the other day and a minister got caught exposing himself in the woods with anotehr man. That is not a true church and is a disgrace and insult to God. It's really sad that they call themselves Christians. My pastor said a few weeks ago, we all have this sin nature, some just choose to take it as far as they can go, but God still loves them.

Todays sermon and also what we studied in Sunday school touched upon all this. Our pastor really called upon all of us to look into our hearts, search out that sin in our lives with the Spirits help, to confront it, reject it and surrender to Christ.

In Sunday school our pastor pointed out that if Christians really put Christ first, most of the problems with sports and other events being schedualed on Sundays would cease. If Christian parents told coaches and others that on Sunday their children would be in church, scheduals would be changed. It's only because Christian parents have not taken such a stand, have in effect placed sports ahead of Christ, and have been setting the example to their children that church and Christ don't take first place in our lives, that things like sports are more important than attending church or seeking God first.

During the sermon today our pastor said one of the warning signs of a pastor either heading in a dangerous direction or already having gone there is when that pastors own name starts getting promoted above God's. Rather than "First Baptist church" where Christ is preached, if we see a sign saying "The ministry of Pastor Brown and his special word for you", that should serve as a warning sign.

At least in the end they will not get away with them. In the end they will be totally exposed & be sent to their proper place.

I will admit, & I believe most everyone will, some people are more lovable than others.

Wow John, what you mentioned about the 'ministry of Pastor Brown' is getting very popular, & usually those are in the business of putting the Word up for sale.
