BB is just trying to do what the Pope has asked him to do - evangelize the world against protestantism.

BB before you will ever make a good evangelist, you need to read and study the Word of God as found in the Holy Bible. Mary is never referred to as the "Mother of God" on any page in the entire scriptures. A small part of what was said about Mary has been taken out of context, and then various fairy tales and fantasies were added to it throughout the centuries and placed in the Book of Traditions. You cannot be a good evangelist by using the Book of Traditions - only God's Words as found in the scriptures of the Holy Bible will do. The scriptures do not teach that Mary was anything but a vessel, and that she was human, as referenced by Jesus himself who called her a Woman. He did not call her "my mother" (that would indeed indicate she was God's mother). The scriptures teach that after Jesus miraculous birth, she and Joseph had many other children - Jesus had half-brothers and sisters. The scriptures do not teach that she was a perpetual virgin. Nor do the scriptures teach that she was assumed into heaven by a host of angels when she died either. She died as any other human must die.

I have even heard that Mary herself is not in heaven. I heard it speculated that she committed the unpardonable sin against the Holy Spirit when she questioned the beginning of Jesus' earthly ministry. This must have saddened Jesus tremendously.

That's almost as crazy as the other....

I did not say that I believed it, I just said that I have heard that speculation. The only thing that really know and believe about Mary is that she was a woman, who was chosen by God to bring Jesus into this world. She was a special woman perhaps, but still she was a woman.

Mary was a saved woman - therefore there is no way she committed any unpardonable sin.

Luke 1:47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

She was still faithful and serving the Lord on the day of Pentecost (or just before it):

Acts 1:14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

I found this article that sums it up nicely, I think...

Mary Worship

Catholics have been obsessed with this idolatrous practice since the fourth century. Devout Roman Catholics believe that Mary, the mother of Jesus, remained a virgin and remained sinless all of her life. She is worshipped in the Catholic church as the "Mother of God" and the "Queen of Heaven." St. Bernard stated that she was crowned "Queen of Heaven" by God the Father, and that she currently sits upon a throne in Heaven making intercession for Catholics.
The Bible teaches otherwise. In the Bible, Mary was a sinner just like the rest of us. She said herself that she needed a "Savior" (Lk. 1:47), and she even had to offer a sacrifice for her sins in Luke 2:24. Jesus was only her "firstborn" son, according to Matthew 1:25, because she later had other children as well (Mt. 13:55; Gal. 1:19; Psa. 69:8). There's only ONE mediator between God and men, and it isn't Mary (I Tim. 2:5). The last time we hear from Mary in the Bible she is praying WITH the disciples, not being prayed to BY the disciples (Acts 1:14).

Roman Catholic Mary Worship is nothing more than Pagan Idolatry. Throughout history pagans have worshipped female deities under various names, and many of them are in the Bible (Judges 10:6; I Sam. 7:3-4; 12:10; I Kings 11:5; II Kings 23:13, etc.), including the "queen of heaven" (Jer. 44:16-25). Mary is nothing more than a sinner saved by grace, whom God chose to use as a means of bringing His Son into this world. The Bible never exalts her above anyone else. Neither should we. If you are a Roman Catholic, perhaps you should give special attention to Mary's only command in John 2:5.

I'm sure that banning will go over well in his mind lol....

Oh man, I remember when I was a catholic and thought all baptists were these crazy people who would dance in the isles and not shut up about Jesus when they where not even in the only true church.

I'm glad I wasn't so full of pomp that when I visited a IFB church, that was the end of Catholicism for me. I may be stupid, but I'm not dumb enough to fight God.

Actually, the Bible does call Mary the mother of the Lord. Do you deny that Jesus is God?

Luke Chapter 1 (KJB)
41: And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
42: And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
43: And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

And the Bible says that there is only one Lord

"One Lord, one faith, one baptism" - Ephesians 4:5 (KJB)

Mr. Catholic, will you stop defending your Catholic heresies on this Baptist Message board? Thank you.

Mary is the mother of Jesus in His humanity. She is in no sense whatsoever the mother of God, the mother of His deity, or in any way exalted above Him. She was a sinful, though saved, woman - Jesus is God incarnate.

biblefaith,

Right, but the rest of the Bible lets us know that Mary was not the progenitor of God and thereby being over and before God. Mary was a human. Jesus Christ existed before Mary was born. Mary was the human tool by which God came in the flesh to this world.

Are you saying that Mary is the mother of God? That is impossible.

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
John 1:1-3 (KJV)

For He was before Mary was born.

Of course Mary was the mother of Jesus in the flesh which is not near the same as saying Mary is the mother of God.

Jesus was without any sin, so it couldn't be to dishonor her since that would mean sinning by breaking the same commandments that he told us that we have to follow.

I don't think that the Bible mentions anyone else always calling their mother "Woman".

He is using woman to refer to St. Mary, not to be disrespectful. He later says:

"My mother and brothers are those who hear God's word and put it into practice." (Luke 8:21)

When one says that St. Mary is the Mother of God, we don't mean that she is older than God, we merely mean that she gave birth to God, and is thus the Mother of God.

Yes, quite true. As many people say the Co-Redeptrix.
