Has this mastitis went away before?

The reason I ask is because my mom died of inflammatory breast cancer. It can easily be mistaken as mastitis even by doctors. The only sure way to tell is a biopsy (not mammagram, because it is more of a skin cancer than a breast cancer although It's not a skin cancer either.. It's breast cancer. I know, I know, I am not making sense)

if something won't heal or go away and seem to get worst, you might have to have a further checkup.

Yes, she has had this before. She was on an antibiotic for 2 weeks (which messed up my son system ((he is still nursing)) and it went away. It has now come back. I told my wife to go in and get it checked out this time. Last time she just called the midwife and was told to get the medicine.

She thinks I worry about stuff too much, but what would I do without her?

I think she will be alright then.. cancer does not go away at all even on antibodies.. but infection goes away and come back.
And it's common to get something like this often while breastfeeding. She still should check it out anyway if it keep coming back, just in case.

I've had this before as well while nursing my kiddos. I believe it is a bacterial infection and enters by way of the milk ducts. I always got it when my kids were sick with a cold as well. It may be that your son has a mild bacterial infection (along with his cold virus) that he has given to your wife. The antibiotics will clear it up speedily and your wife should feel better in 24-48 hours after starting the meds. Don't let it go without getting it treated though, it can turn into a nasty little lump of infection (abcess) that needs to be drained by a dr. (but i've never heard of it turning into cancer or something like that) It sure can make you feel tired, sick and feverish, though!!
