WHY? :eek

LoL, it's a joke. The validity of different Bible versions is a pretty hot topic among many Independent Baptists. I'd personally recommend doing a short study on the differences between the KJV and NKJV. Maybe do a Google search for a "KJV NKJV Comparison Chart."

I'd personally recommend this video:

It explains how modern translations, including the NKJV use manuscripts later found in Egypt as part of the translation process, therefore adding Alexandrian philosophy which is present in the new translations.

I hope that helps.

One of the things I really dislike most about the NKJV is it's claim to only update some words to make it easier to read for todays people. That's an outright lie. There are various other changes made within the text itself that alters the Word of God and makes it not a "new" King James Version but rather a wholly different version.

Are there worse versions out there? Sadly, there are many, but why settle for an incomplete or corrupted version of the Word of God when we have the whole Word of God available to us in the King James Bible?

Although I think Hovind to be a crackpot on many issues, that was actually a decent video. I own an NKJV, NIV, RSV, and KJV Bible. Primarily, I use the versions (outside of the KJV - which is also a "version") as a companion study to the KJV as they give great alternative views of synoptic passages.

It also helps to have a Greek NT and a lexicon when I'm doing serious word studies. I must make comment here that I rarely ever read the "editor's" or "publishers" notes in most study Bibles.

Just the thoughts from the "librul" corner...fire away.

VD,

What you've described is like making a nice mug of hot tea, and flavoring it with...

***a little black sewage water

***a little arsenic

***a little 2,4,D plant killer

***a little strychnine

***a little cyanide

....and then a whooooole lot of mint for added zing.

Hmmm...I just love all those facts you use to support your definitions. Where'd you take apologetics? :wink

Here is a fact for you.

"Online Baptist is a KJB board and we will not change. Regardless of what you think, we have studied this out and believe that God has preserved His words for the English speaking people in the King James Bible."

pneu-engine only stated what is the official board position, and it is one the majority of the board members agree with. We can't help it if you choose to be in the "librul" corner. :frog

Reading-comprehension is your friend, guys. If I thought the other versions were better than the KJV, I would have stated so. In fact, I agree with the KJV being the superior translation, and my post says as much. I just figured with the other translations available, they act as commentaries on certain portions of Scripture. That was all I was sayin'. You guys just love to hate...a typical earmark.

It may surprise you to know, that I'm one of the more conservative-minded people you're likely to meet (especially if you come to my church). I'm only in the librul corner because that's where you have painted me, mostly because I don't adhere to the the "it's truth because I said so" philosophy. Oh, and thanks for the restating of the "official board position" - I was unaware a board of this size needed so many mods... :roll
